Nigerian international sprinter Blessing Okagbare has surpassed Usain Bolts in the 2016 Guinness records.
At the moment, the talented athlete is the only athlete in the world with the most diamond league appearances.
The Guinness World records show that Blessing Okagbare has featured in 38 diamond league events. This beats the number of appearances by any other athlete in the world.
“Multi-discipline athlete, Blessing Okagbare from Nigeria participated at 38 Diamond league events between July 3, 2010 and September 5, 2014. Okagbare’s specialties are the 100m and 200m sprints and long jump.” -Guinness Book, 2016.
Blessing Okagbare is a force to be reckoned with in athletics. She made her international debut during the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics. There she performed in the qualifying rounds of both long and triple jump competitions.
At the age of 19 she came 3rd place during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, winning a bronze medal in women’s long jump.
In 2007 she took home a silver medal from the All-African Games competition. She came 4th in the triple jump category with a record of 14.13 metres.
With a running time record of 11.04 seconds, she won the Nigerian 100m title in 2010.
The 2010 African championship gold medalist might not beat Usain Bolt in terms of speed but the young lady is a star whose light cannot be hidden.
At 10.85 seconds, Blessing is currently the fastest female athlete in the women’s 100 metres Commonwealth Games.
The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) diamond league which encompasses the athletic competitions from all over the world will be hosted in London. The league awarded Usain Bolt the world athlete of the year in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Nevertheless, he has not made as much appearances in the diamond league competitions as Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has.
