Eight whole years after the album that gave us hit songs like “Gbono Feli Feli”, “Kimon”, “Olorun Maje” and “Entertainer”, D’Banj is preparing to give us what will be his fourth solo album and many will agree that it has indeed been a long time coming.
D’banj revealed this to YNaija on Tuesday at MTV Base’s media briefing in Lagos. Being interviewed by them, he said that a team of executives are in the process of selecting songs from his music catalogue to include in the yet to be named album. YNaija quotes him as saying; “I just came back from South Africa where I met with some executives who are picking some specific songs to make the album.” He continued; “So hopefully, by God’s grace with all things possible, an album is going to come out this year.”
It would be erroneous to suppose that the kokomaster has been up to nothing in this eight year long ‘album silence’. He has a modest number of other hit singles to his name, one of which (Oliver Twist) topped the African charts 2011 and was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012 reaching No. 2 on the UK R&B chart. He also intermittently stuns in live performances and was ranked as the richest solo musician in Nigeria by T.I.N Magazine in 2016.
Despite all these achievements a lot of Africans will undoubtedly be happy to hear another album offering from D’banj. It is hard to dwell on what to expect as Mr. Entertainer has certainly come a long way in 8 years, but quite a number of people will be expecting nothing short of gold from one of Africa’s biggest acts.
