Is Michelle Obama Truly Zimbabwean?

Although everyone knows about President Obama’s Kenyan ancestry, it has been a guess game determining where the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama originally hails from.

Some Zimbabwean news papers began reporting this month that Michelle Obama was born to a Zimbabwean father in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP).

Her father, Fraser Robinson III is said to have been a plumber in Harare (known as Salisbury at the time), Zimbabwe’s capital. He worked for Robinson and Sons Private company where he is believed to have gotten the name ‘ Robinson’ from.

The report insists that ‘Robinson’ was not his birth surname. His surname was ‘Magwere’ of the Soko totem.

He is said to have left the country with his bethroted, Marian with the owners of the plumbing company some years before Zimbabwe gained her independence from Great Britain.

Some even suggest that Marian Robinson was a war veteran who helped current President Mugabe in the Liberation movement against Britain.

Although Michelle Obama had not visited Zimbabwe, her father is said to have visited in 1989 before he kicked the bucket in 1991.

The Obamas

Members of the Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe community have received the news with open arms. Some even suggest that President Obama should pay bride price to them seeing as their brother (her father) is dead.

The villagers who are expecting Mrs Obama to visit them soon connect her philanthropic acts to that of her grand mother Gogo Magwere who housed orphans of the liberation struggle.

However these have not been confirmed yet as the official background of First Lady Michelle Obama says nothing about a Zimbabwean ancestry.

Others have ignored that, claiming her father probably never told her about his heritage else she would have visited the southern African country like her husband visited Kenya last year.
