Where Is The Original Abubakar Shekau?
It has been rumored for over a week that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, may have been captured by the Nigerian army.
The Nigerian troop fighting insurgency had surround the Gafa Mountain area last week over intelligence report that top Boko Haram leaders were hiding there.
It could be that Abubakar Shekau is indeed the cat with nine lives or the Islamic sect is playing a fast one on Nigeria. Either way, Nigerians want substantiated proof for whatever claims the Nigerian military make.
Several times the Nigerian authorities have made claims that the most wanted man in Nigeria has been captured and killed.
In a ridiculous fashion the supposed dead man re-surfaces and stamps his presence regardless; via video or audio messages.
A few months ago the government confidently announced that the Boko Haram leader was gravely injured but managed to escape with the help of his followers.
It almost became certain that the man was still alive when he released a message countering the orders of ISIS that he was still in charge of the menace group in West Africa.
With the emergence of the United States’ president-elect, it could also be recalled that he released an audio to threaten Donald Trump.
For the fact that Shekau has not been seen in many videos lately poses a question as to whether he is really the ‘original’ shekau or the sect have been manipulating the audio messages to confuse Nigerians.
In all fairness, the Nigerian military have been doing a great job in the fight against Boko Haram in the country, So far they have fought the group to a near zero.
This year alone thousands of captives were released; top Boko Haram leaders amongst other followers and suicide bombers captured or killed at the war front.
However, without a solid proof it may be hard to convince Nigerians that the terrorist has been captured in truth.
In 2014, Marilyn Ogar, the former DSS spokesperson insisted that the man in the videos released by the sect was not the original Abubakar Shekau.
“Boko Haram has become a franchise; anybody can assume and lay claim to any name. What I know is that the original Abubakar Shekau is dead; the person claiming to be the national leader now is not the original Abubakar Shekau.”
