In his berating of the GOP, Obama was referring to a scandalous recording of Donald Trump taken in 2005 and published by The Washington Post which saw Trump describing his lewd and untoward attitude towards women in explicit terms. The Republican party nominee’s practically boasted of sexual assault and made vulgar comments about women.

The President implied that the party had been ignoring months of sexist, racist and xenophobic rhetoric that Trump regularly spewed on the campaign trail.

President Barack Obama had been campaigning on behalf of Democratic party nominee, Hillary Clinton, at a rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. He said that the comments made by Trump would disqualify him from even a job at a convenience store.  In the President’s words;

“Now you find a situation in which the guy says stuff that nobody would find tolerable if they were applying for a job at 7-Eleven,”

The President also criticized all the Republicans who had come out to condemn the remarks made in the video but continued to back Donald Trump. He said;

“The fact that now you’ve got people saying: ‘We strongly disagree, we really disapprove … but we’re still endorsing him.’ They still think he should be president, that doesn’t make sense to me,”

In the course of his address, the President also took a shot at Trump’s business credentials, referring to a New York Times report that showed he claimed a nearly billion dollar loss in one year on his taxes in the 1990s.
