Nigerian club owner, Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu – popularly known as “Pretty Mike” – has been arrested for his signature style of chaining girls like dogs.

The chained girls seem to lead the way before him on several occasions. They are chained by the neck while Mr Pretty Mike holds the chain behind them.

Lagos State government has found the trend distasteful and arrested the club owner for dehumanizing young girls.

It is however on record that the girls did not accept the degrading position under gun point. Nevertheless it was still an awkwardly annoying sight.

Within and beyond Nigeria, the act sends a message to the place of women in the society.

Mr Mike was arrested on Wednesday, January 12 by the police of Lagos State Government.

Report says that he co-operated with the police all through his arrest. Mr Mike was investigated and made to write a statement. He also signed an undertaking not to be part of the humiliating act again.

Part of the undertaking read thus:

“I, Mike Eze Nwalie, A.K.A Pretty Mike of 21A Magodo GRA, Luma Street, do hereby undertake to stop whatever act of putting girls on a leash or any other degrading treatment to ladies and guys.”

“I am aware that such act offends the law of the State of Lagos and if I repeat it again, there will be legal act towards me. I undertake to issue a letter of apology to the public effective from tomorrow on all my social media platforms.”

Lagos State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem registered his dismay over the “anti-social behavior”.

He said the State will not tolerate such acts in the future; and guilty persons from henceforth will face the full wrath of the law.

“The Lagos State Government is committed to the protection of the rights of all citizens including children, women and all the vulnerable persons in the State.”
