Before their disbandment, 2NE1 made their place in history as a tremendously successful and popular girl group. Members of the group grabbed airwaves with their fierce charisma, going on to dominate the K-pop scene from day one with their first single, Fire (2009). 2NE1’s style of hard and fast hip-hop launched a career that brought the act to the very top of stardom. Their name stands for “New Evolution of The 21st Century”. Throughout their career, 2NE1 saw 19 hits appear on the World Digital Songs chart, three albums appear in the top 10 of the World Albums chart, and one album appear on the Billboard 200 chart.

The success of its members created opportunities for more adventurous K-pop girl groups. 2NE1 went on hiatus in 2014 and by 2016, Minzy left the group. Their final album, 2014’s Crush, was the highest-ranked Korean album on the Billboard 200 for two years until it was beaten by BTS’ Wings. Most of the group’s activities were halted in 2014 after Bom came under fire for illegally importing medication from the U.S. Learn all you need to know about the group and its members below.

Later that year, Lee performed for the first time on stage at Seoul Broadcasting System’s Gayo Daejeon alongside her label mates. She took on the stage name CL and became 2NE1’s leader and main rapper. The group also collaborated with BIGBANG for the song Lollipop. CL cites 1TYM leader Teddy Park, who produced much of 2NE1’s music, as an influence and inspiration, as well as Madonna, Queen, and Lauryn Hill.

The singer first tasted stardom in the Philippines as a contestant on the talent show Star Circle Quest in 2004. Bom

2NE1

Bom is a South Korean singer, who began her musical career in 2006, featuring on singles released by labelmates BIGBANG, Lexy, and Masta Wu. In 2009, she made her debut as a member of 2NE1 as the main vocalist. She was awarded Best Digital Single at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards for her single Don’t Cry. Although she was born Park Bom in Seoul, South Korea, on March 24, 1984, Bom lived in the United States from the ages of eleven to twenty-one. Whilst attending junior high school, Bom was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). At the age of 21, she returned to South Korea to pursue a music career and repeatedly auditioned to join YG Entertainment. However, after three years of auditioning, she was accepted into the company.

In 2014, it was released to the public that Park had been under investigation for drug smuggling through international mail in the past. Although the drug was said to be illegal in South Korea, it was legal in the United States. At the time, she was unable to travel to the United States during that time due to her busy schedule. Park contacted her U.S. physician to refill her medication and it was sent via her family members but was seized at the airport.
