(G)I-DLE is a six-member South Korean girl band created by the South Korean entertainment company, Cube Entertainment that manages many renowned artists and groups including BtoB, CLC, Jo Kwon, Pentagon, A Train To Autumn, Jang Hyun-seung, among many others. (G)I-DLE members consist of Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yugi, Soojin, and Shuhua. They debuted with the release of their first extended play, ‘I Am‘ on 2nd May 2018. 1. The (G)I-DLE Members’ History

Soyeon who is the leader of the girl group became a trainee of Cube Entertainment after passing the final round of judging in 2014 and later appeared as a representative trainee for Cube Entertainment on the first season of the girl-group survival show, Produce 101 in January 2016. After peaking at the 10th position in the fifth episode, she was later ranked No. 20 on the last episode and unfortunately failed to become a member of the winning girl-group, I.O.I. Soyeon went further to feature as a contestant in the third season of the rap competition show, Unpretty Rapster in July 2016 and finished the show as the second runner-up which as a result earned three tracks on the final compilation album of the show. After signing a contract with Cube Entertainment as an artist on 29th December 2016, she debuted as a soloist with the release of self-written digital singles, ‘Idle Song’ and ‘Jelly’ on 5th November 2017.

Miyeon initially trained at YG Entertainment for five years and after leaving the record label, she appeared as an associate singer with Seulong in his Urban Zakapa Canada Tour in September 2016 before becoming a trainee at Cube Entertainment in early 2017. Also, Soojin was a former DN Entertainment trainee in 2015 and later trained as a member of the girl band, Vivivida before debuting with (G)I-DLE in 2018. Minnie, on the other hand, appeared in Line Friends’ album titled ‘Dance Party’ in 2017. Cube Entertainment unveiled (G)l-DLE members on 5th April 2018 during Dingo Music’s dance busking held at Hongdae, Seoul and later released their pictures from 8th April to 12th April 2018.

2. The Success of Their First Extended Play

(G)I-DLE debuted with their first extended play titled, ‘I Am‘ on 2nd May 2018 along with their lead track, ‘Latata‘. The video release of ‘Latata‘ earned over 5.9 million views within its first week while the EP peaked at No. 5 on Billboard’s World Album chart on 9th May 2018 and debuted at No. 13 on Gaon Album Chart on 10th May 2018. Its hit single, ‘Latata‘ debuted at No. 35 on Gaon Digital Chart on 17th May 2018 and peaked at No. 36 on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart on 5th June 2018. In addition, their first digital single titled, ‘Hann (Alone)‘ which was released along with its video on 14th August 2018 garnered over 4.9 million views on YouTube within 24 hours.

3. (G)I-DLE’ First Music Show Win

(G)I-DLE earned their first music show win after twenty days of their debut by winning SBS MTV’s The Show on 22nd May 2018 with their hit single ‘Latata‘, thereby becoming the second-fastest win ever for a girl band. They also became the first and the only K-Pop group to chart on NetEase Cloud Music China after their second digital single, ‘Uh-Oh‘ charted at No. 22 on NetEase Cloud Music China in 2019.

4. The Name of (G)I-DLE Fan Club

(G)I-DLE stated in their official statement released on 29th October 2018 that the name of their fan club is ‘Neverland’, named in reference to Peter Pan’s Neverland. It means to remain children in Neverland.

5. Discography and Filmography

So far, (G)I-DLE members have released no less than two Korean extended plays titled, ‘I Am’ and ‘I Made’ and one Japanese extended play titled, ‘Latata’ with many hit singles which includes ‘Latata’, ‘Senorita’, and ‘Uh-Oh’. Similarly, their filmography includes featuring in the Mnet’s TV program, Queendom, and reality shows like (G)I-dle: I-Talk, To Neverland, and (G)I-dle: Little but Certain Happiness.

6. (G)I-DLE Members’ Ambassadorial Post

(G)I-DLE members were appointed the Seoul Metropolitan City’s goodwill ambassador along with Park Jin-Hee, Yura, and eight other nominees. The post will last for a period of two years. They were also bestowed with the ambassadorship of the new Korean Children’s Diabetes Association on the 10th annual Children’s Diabetes Celebration Festival at Lotte World Underground Kingdom in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

7.  The Girl Band Has Won Many Accolades

(G)I-DLE has clinched several awards for their extraordinary musical skills and performances. The awards include Asia Artist Awards, Gaon Chart Music Awards, Genie Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Melon Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, Soribada Best K-Music Awards, and many others.
