1. Background Details

The up and coming solo artist made her arrival into the world in Cebu City as Kriesha Teo Tiu. Her birth date is recorded as 20th December 1998. Although the identities of her parents are not available, it is known that her mother is Filipina while her father is half Chinese-half Filipino. She has two siblings, a younger brother and sister. When she was two years old, she emigrated from the Philippines to the City and County of San Francisco, United States along with her family. After being scouted by the entertainment company, Urban Works Media, Kriesha Chu moved to South Korea along with her mother and brother, and there she became a trainee under the agency.

2. Her Participation in K-Pop Star 6

Following a year’s training at the entertainment company, Kriesha Chu joined the sixth and final season of the South Korean reality TV competition K-Pop Star 6: The Last Chance as a trainee contestant. The show premiered on SBS on November 20, 2016, and was on air until April 9, 2017. Other trainee contestants on the show include Ma Eun-ji (Produce 101 Participants), Lee Seo-jin (former participant of Fantastic Duo Season 1), Jeon Min-Joo (K-Pop Star 2 contestant) and many others.

Kriesha performed well while on the show as she won the heart of the judges with her introduction which she presented in the form of a song about herself. Unfortunately, she was evicted from the show during the seventh episode. But just like in the show Sixteen, JYP had a wild card that brought Momo back, Kriesha Chu was brought back to the competition by the judges using a wild card. She eventually formed a trio group, KWINS with Kim Hye-rim and Kim So-hye. They finished as runner up behind winners – Boyfriend which consist of minors; Park Hyun-jin and Kim Jong-seob.

After the end of the competition show in 2017, Kriesha Chu kicked off her solo career with the release of ‘Kriesha Chu 1st Single Album’  along with the hit track ‘Trouble’ on 24th May 2017. In the following year, she dropped her first extended play, ‘Dream of Paradise’ with the hit single ‘Like Paradise’ and other tracks such as ‘Sunset Dream’ (Korean and English versions). Her single album peaked at No. 35 on the Gaon Music Chart while her extended play peaked at No. 70 on the same chart.

4. Music Video Appearance And Collaborations

The young vocalist was featured as the leading girl in ‘Baby U’ music video by the South Korean singer, and dancer, Hoya. She has also formed collaborations with other music artists like Kim Min-Joo in her track ‘Falling Star’ and Flow Blow in another of her song ‘Like Paradise’.

5. She Has Contributed TV Drama’s OST

Kriesha Chu has moved on to display her unique talent by contributing to many official soundtracks of some TV Dramas. In 2017, she recorded a soundtrack titled ‘Say You Love Me’ alongside the American born South Korean singer, Samuel for the TV drama, Pink Pink. Then in 2019, she recorded ‘Delight’ for the South Korean TV series, Welcome to Waikiki 2 and ‘A Thousand Days’ Love’ for another series titled, Home for Summer.

6. Kriesha Chu’s Radio and TV Show Appearances

Aside from participating in the reality TV competition, K-Pop Star 6, Kriesha Chu has also participated in other shows like Channel A’s We Are Also National Athletes in 2017 and MBC’s variety show, King of Mark Singer where she was eliminated in the first round. She has also made guest appearances on Netflix web TV program, Busted!, OBS’ Eodi Road and JTBC’s Hitman. She has additionally been featured on SBS Power FM’s program titled, Hwa-Jeong Choi’s Power Time and has served as a guest on One Fine Day aired on KBS World Radio.

7. Kim Min-Joo is Her Best Friend

IZONE vocalist and dancer, Kim Min-Joo who is known professionally as Minju is Kriesha Chu’s best friend. Her nicknames include Pepe and MinMin. The pair collaborated in Kriesha’s song ‘Falling Star’. She was also featured in the music video for the single ‘Like Paradise’. Aside from singing and dancing, Min-joo can also play the guitar very well.
