Abuja Postal Codes For All Area Councils and Districts

Postal codes help direct the post office to the particular location where mails, packages, or parcels are delivered. Although postal codes can also be referred to as Zip Code – this term is only common in the United States. However, both terms generally refer to the same thing and they are used mainly to ensure the proper delivery of parcels to their rightful owners.

In Nigeria, these postal codes are generally a unique string of 6 digits numbers given by NIPOST, the Nigerian Postal Service. The first digit of the code represents one of the nine regions that NIPOST has divided the county into. The number 9 is the assigned number for the region where Abuja is located.

The Classification Of Post Codes in Abuja

Abuja is the 9th region, according to how NIPOST has divided the country. For this, the number 9 is the officially assigned number to the Federal Capital Territory. This number, together with the second and third digits out of the standard six digits postal code, represents the regional numbers (the dispatch district for the outgoing sorting).

The remaining 3 digits represent the delivery location (the area or the post office to receive the package). However, the main postal head office in each region of the state will have a postal code that ends in 0001. For example, Garki Main Head Office in Abuja has the postal code 900001.

This means that the different locations within the state have different combinations of the last five digits. This is with respect to their area councils, districts, and towns. If you don’t have the correct Abuja postal codes and use the wrong one, the parcel will be sent to another location and delays will be experienced.
