Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba was born in Massachusetts to Nigerian parents of Ibo origin. We love her for her role as Suzanne Warren (Crazy Eyes), a character which she portrays perfectly in the Netflix original series, Orange Is The New Black. This has earned her 3 awards; the 2014 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, and the 2015 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. This makes her the only actress to win in two genres (comedy and drama) for the same role, how outstanding is that? Way to go Uzo!!

Chiwetelu Umeadi Ejiofor is a london born Nigerian. He made his debut in 1996 in the movie, Deadly Voyage. He has also been in numerous stage acts, some including Othello and Romeo and Juliet. This list would be incomplete without mentioning the Kenyan-Mexican actress who has gotten all of Hollywood obsessed with her toned black skin and her ability to slay on the red carpet almost every time. She is also Known for her role as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave, which landed her an Academy Award for best supporting actress. In 2014, she was named People’s Most beautiful woman of the year and Glamour’s Woman of the year, and we can’t agree more because she’s absolutely adorable.

Boyega is of Nigerian descent although he was born in Peckham, London. He started acting at the tender age of 5 when he played a leopard in his primary school. The young Leopard is now a Jedi knight and we absolutely love his role as Finn, a storm trooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His role sparked some controversy among the movie’s fan base for being  a man of color. Undeterred by their racist remarks, John commented that,

I am grounded in who I am… I am a confident, Nigerian, Black, chocolate man…

And we absolutely agree! Boyega has also starred in a number of movies including the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book, Half Of A Yellow Sun. With his acting prowess, we  look forward to seeing more of him in movies this year

Otlile might be a new name to some, but to anyone who is a ball room dance fanatic, the name will definitely ring a bell. The South African beauty studied Civil engineering but currently works the dance floor with so much grace and energy. She performs on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and the German adaptation, Let’s Dance. The 8 time winner of the South African Latin American Championship has been listed to perform during Strictly’s new season.
