Alex Mikhailovich Ovechkin was born in Moscow, Russia on the 17th of September, 1985 to Tatyana and Mikhail Ovechkin. He was born into a family of athletes with his mother having won two Olympic gold medals in the game of basketball while his father is a well-known soccer player. Alex from childhood already showed a keen interest in the game, as his mother reports, Alex began watching hockey even before it could talk and those early years were the signs that made her conclude that she had birthed a child who, like her, would become an athlete.
Alex Ovechkin is the youngest child of his parents, who had two other boys before he was born. His eldest brother, Sergei died when he was 10; he was the one that took him to most of his games.
