Any fan of the television series The Last Kingdom would have definitely noticed the charming actor, Alexander Dreymon, who portrayed Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Although his parents reportedly wanted him to pursue a medical career, his love and dexterity in the arts forced him to settle for a profession in the entertainment industry. Today, his choice of career has paid off greatly.

Alexander Dreymon Had An Adventurous Childhood
The gorgeous blue-eyed actor was born and named Alexander Doetsch on the 7th of February, 1983, in Germany. He had the privilege of traveling to many countries as a young boy owing to the nature of his mother’s job as a teacher, which saw her live in places like the U.S., France, and Switzerland. This contributed to his mastery of diverse languages.
When his mother traveled to France to nurse her sister who was involved in a horse-riding accident, Alexander was with her during the trip and spent ample time in the country. He also visited Brazil, Bali and New Caledonia during his formative years. He initially lived in California’s San Francisco in the United States before he took up residence in South Dakota.
The actor has not spoken much about his father, although multiple sources point to the fact that they never had a hostile relationship. In term of his education, Alexander Dreymon schooled in France and was advised by his parents to pick a medical career, but as he had discovered his gift for acting, he went to London Drama Center where he spent three years receiving training for the craft. He Had His Career Breakthrough In 2011
Dreymon’s acting career kicked off with stage plays on theatres in London and Paris. In all the roles assigned to him, the German-born actor killed every bit of it to the admiration of his fans, colleagues, and filmmakers. Alexander Dreymon’s fine acting skills earned him his first screen appearance in a 2010 French drama titled Ni reprise, ni échangée. His surging career then grew like wildfire following his portrayal of Caspar in the British film, Christopher and His Kind which was released in 2011. The film focuses on the life of Christopher Isherwood in the early 1930s when he made exploits in Berlin.
The same year, he featured in three other films; he played Bruce in Sotto il Vestito Niente – L’ultima Sfilata, a Shape Shifter in Who’s Watching Who, and Steiner in Resistance. In 2013, Dreymon got himself a role in American Horror Story: Coven which is the third season of the FX anthology TV series, American Horror Story. He played Luke Ramsey in the series which tells the story of a coven of witches that fight for survival, having descended from Salem. It equally features flashbacks of the notorious Salem Witch Trial that took place in 1692.
Alexander Dreymon then followed up his performance with another great depiction in the 2014 thriller vampire film, Blood Ransom where he featured as Jeremiah opposite Anne Curtis. In the year 2015, still determined to take his acting career to new heights, he portrayed Steve in The Test of Time. He also played the father in Guys Reading Poems the next year. Later in 2018, he played the role of Lee Haze in Heartlock and also, was cast as Jackson in the upcoming Swedish thriller movie, Horizon Line directed by Michael Marcimain.
Portraying Uhtred Of Bebbanburg Shot The Actor To Superstardom
In 2015, Alexander Dreymon landed a role in the British historical TV series, The Last Kingdom, as Uhtred of Bebbanburg. His performance in the hit series has been widely acclaimed and has helped the actor achieve a thriving career in acting. He has played the lead in over 35 episodes of the historical fiction TV series which premiered on BBC America in October 2015. After the broadcast of the show’s second season on BBC Two, Netflix became its sole distributor by the third season.
The streaming giant renewed the show for a fourth season in December 2018 and also for a fifth season in July 2020. As such, Dreymon will continue to build his fanbase with his scintillating performances which have designated him as one of The Last Kingdom‘s most popular characters. Alexander Dreymon does not have a wife yet. Although he is sensitive about divulging every bit of his love life, back in 2010, he was linked to a Greek actress named Tonia Sotiropoulou who played the bond girl in the 2012 movie Skyfall. Their love journey lasted for about two years and ended in 2012. Since gaining a lead role in The Last Kingdom, the hunky actor has been frequently rumored to be dating either of his co-stars – Eliza Butterworth and Emily Cox. While that of Eliza has appeared false as she is dating a man called James, Dreymon and Cox are yet to confirm or deny the rumored relationship, although, the latter is said to be currently single.
No other lady has been linked to the actor in recent times; even his social media has been devoid of anything concrete that could point towards a love life. It could mean that the 5 ft. 10-inches tall actor is discreet about his romantic relationship or maybe he is just focusing on building his acting career.

Thus far in his career, Alexander Dreymon has been able to put up impressive performances for all the roles assigned to him. As such, his portrayal of the gay character, Casper, in the British film Christopher and His Kind was entirely believable. This probably fuelled the rumor about Alexander being gay in real life.
