Alfred Morris is an American football running back who went pro in 2012 after he was selected in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft by the Washington Redskins. He is popular not only for being a football player but also for holding tight to his 26-year-old Mazda 626 sedan from 1991 which he bought from his pastor for just a token of $2 during his junior year at Florida Atlantic University. The vehicle, affectionately known as “Bentley,” attracted national attention in 2012 when he was drafted and took it with him.
Speaking of his beloved Bently on the Redskins’ website, Alfred Morris explained that it keeps him grounded as it is a constant reminder of where he came from and all the hard work it took for him to get to where he is. His relationship with the car is like the ideal Christian marriage vow of till death do us part. “It’s always going to be my baby and I’m going to drive it ’til she dies”, he said.
Alfred Morris Bio
The running back was born as Alfred Bruce Morris on December 12, 1988, in Pensacola, Florida, where he attended Pine Forest High School and was lettered in football, basketball, and track. As a footballer, he played in the PSA All-Star Game and was named North West Florida Most Valuable Player, first-team All-State and was a game Most Valuable Player. Alfred also succeeded in his academics and was named Pine Forest student-athlete of the month.
According to the player, his high school football career drew the attention of several colleges, but in the process of praying about where he should go, each school fell aside except for Florida Atlantic University so he moved over there and played college football from 2008–2011. His performance on the field was outstanding even though the team did not win as often as they wanted.
After his final collegiate season, Alfred Morris set his eyes on the 2012 NFL Draft and was selected with the 173rd overall pick by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of that year’s draft. He made his NFL debut in the season opener against the New Orleans Saints and as a result of his great display throughout the season, he was named Rookie of the Week twice. At the end of the season, he made 1,613 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, setting a new record for rushing yards for a single-season, most touchdowns scored by a rookie in a single season and became the fourth NFL player to record more than 1,600 rushing yards in his rookie year.
He continued his exceptional play for the team until 2016 when he was signed to a 2-year contract by the Dallas Cowboys. At the expiration of the contract, he moved over to the San Francisco 49ers.
Net Worth
Running back Alfred Morris has an estimated net worth of $2 million dollars. He has earned $7.56 million from playing in over seven seasons in the NFL. In 2017, he earned $2.14 million and following his one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers worth $790,000, he will earn a base salary of $790,000 while carrying a cap hit of $630,000 and a dead cap value of $790,000.
His Wife and Family
Alfred is the son of Ronald Morris (father) and Yvonne Morris (mother). He was raised in Pensacola, Florida, alongside six of his brothers, and back home, he is known simply as “Fred”. Even though the family did not have much, they had each other. The brothers would often play every kind of sport together and even go as far as inventing their own games.
Fred comes from a Christian home and counts himself fortunate to have both of his parents in his life. According to him, they are the major reason why he became who he is today. This is because they inculcated morals, values, and beliefs in their family, taking them to church every week and making them understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Alfred Morris is married to Lindsey Kate Morris, daughter of Lisa and Dana Rice. She was born on March 1, 1992, in Zellwood, Florida and is also an athlete just like her husband. Lindsey attended Florida State University during her freshman year but later transferred to Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where she played as a midfielder in the women’s soccer team. She graduated in 2013 with a major in exercise science, it was during their time at Florida state that the couple met.
From their very first meeting, Lindsey developed a crush on Alfred but did not have the courage to act on it -at least not immediately. However, during the Memorial weekend just after he got drafted, Lindsey sent him a congratulatory text and he replied with an invitation since he was in town.
They met up and spent some time together alongside some of Lindsey’s friends. After the meeting, she got over him and told her friends he was no longer her secret boyfriend. However, as fate would have it, they started talking again not too long after and soon started dating, precisely in the spring after Alfred’s rookie year. Although they were 1,000 miles apart, they became close friends often speaking on phone and Skyping.
When they got to the point of making things official, the duo agreed on some rules, including not having sex before marriage. This they did because they wanted to honor God. A few months after they started dating, they got engaged upon Lindsey’s graduated from FAU and in June 2014, they exchanged their marital vows.
On May 3, 2015, God blessed their union with a son named Josiah and in 2017 they welcomed their daughter, Grace. Lindsey and Alfred are both very strong Christians. When Lindsey is less busy with the children, she posts quotes from the bible on her social media, attributing everything to God.
