Andre Iguodala Biography & Age

Andre Iguodala was born Andre Tyler Iguodala to an African American mother, Linda, and a Nigerian father, Leonard, on January 28, 1984, in Springfield, the capital of the U.S. state of Illinois.

Iguodala attended Lanphier High School where he excelled in both academics and sports. He was notably on the National Honor Roll and won All-Conference academic honors as he featured for both the school’s track and basketball teams. In his final high school year, Iguodala averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game and led his school to a runner-up finish at the Illinois High School Association Class AA state tournament.

Despite not winning any honors, he was consoled by being named Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year although he lost out on the Illinois Mr. Basketball award. He went on to attend the University of Arizona which already had future NBA players like Channing Frye and Luke Walton on its basketball team. In his freshman year, Iguodala quickly rose to become one of the best all-around players on the team and was rewarded by being named to the Pac-10 All-Freshmen team for 2002–03. His school made it to the NCAA Tournament that year but were defeated in the Elite Eight.

He kept up his performances in his sophomore year, leading the team in rebounds, assists and steals before being named as the team’s MVP as well as to the All-Pac-10 First Team. Arizona again qualified for the NCAA Tournament but was defeated in the first round by Seton Hall. That was Iguodala’s final year in college as he enlisted for the 2004 NBA Draft.

Andre Iguodala was selected with the 9th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was immediately thrust into the starting lineup where he formed a partnership with Allen Iverson. Iguodala went on to become the only player on the 76ers roster to play and start in all 82 regular-season games as well as 5 playoff games. His versatility was also on display for everybody to see as he was the only rookie and 76er to record a triple-double that season. After the season, he was named to the All-Rookie First Team but finished fourth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting.

Andre Iguodala went on to play for the 76ers till the 2011-12 season; he joined the Denver Nuggets and played with them for just one year before he eventually became one of the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2013.

In his first season with Golden State, Iguodala was named to the 2014 All-NBA Defensive first team. In the following campaign, he was used as a sixth man up until Game 4 of the 2015 NBA Finals where he made the starting lineup for his defensive abilities. Golden State defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to be crowned champions as Andre Iguodala himself was named Finals MVP.

He won a second NBA championship two years later and is currently on track to win a possible third title against old foes, Cleveland Cavaliers.
