Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt formed what the world saw as an unbreakable duo when they got together almost 14 years ago. The two were top stars in Hollywood with faces and bodies that had gotten them on many beautiful and handsome rankings. They made a pretty perfect couple and the world happily bequeathed on them the title of Brangelina, a mixture of both their names which represented them becoming practically a unit. Their unit was broken when Angelina Jolie announced their divorce in September 2016.
Their relationship may not have had the perfect start as Brad Pitt had been in a relationship with actress Jennifer Aniston at the time rumours started to swirl about his involvement with Angelina Jolie. It started in May 2004, when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met on the set of the film “Mr & Mrs Smith”. They denied any rumours of any personal involvement at the time, stating that the chemistry they displayed on screen was strictly professional and that they did not have any romantic affiliations off-screen. In January 2005, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced that they were splitting up for what was tagged irreconcilable differences.
Angelina Jolie started adding to her family, adopting an Ethiopian child in July 2005 named Zahara. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got officially divorced in October 2005. By January 2006, with the adoption of Maddox and Zahara already complete, Angelina Jolie announced that she would be giving birth to her first child with Brad Pitt.
In May 2006, she gave birth to their child in Swakopmund, Namibia. March 2007 saw the adoption of Pax Thien from Vietnam and the couple had twins Knox and Vivienne in July 2008. Despite this growing family that established the couple’s partnership, it was not until April 2012 that they announced their engagement.
Unfortunately, in February 2013, Angelina Jolie was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a preventative mastectomy. They were finally secretly married in Chateau Miraval, France in August 2014 with their children in attendance. The rocky start to their love story in the public’s perception was soon forgotten as their family grew steadily with the international adoptions and births we have mentioned above; the two stood by each other during hard times. Soon Brangelina became a testament to true love, something to look up to and aspire to have. A shocking announcement by Angelina Jolie in September 2016, however, destroyed the image of their perfect marriage. The actress announced that they were getting a divorce and the world was hit by the split of one of the favourite couples in the entertainment world.
While Brad Pitt split from Jennifer Aniston to begin a life together with Angelina Jolie, the actress also had two prior divorces. She was once married to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Still, her divorce from Brad Pitt seemed to be rather unexpected due to their dedication to raising their six children, their participation in humanitarian projects and even the simple fact that they made some great films together.

Why Did Angelina Jolie Break Up With Brad Pitt?
In filing for the divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie cited irreconcilable differences and sought the physical custody of all six of their children although asking that Brad Pitt be granted visitation rights.
After the divorce announcement, Jolie’s decision was attributed to an alleged altercation that happened on a flight between Brad Pitt and their son Maddox which supposedly ended in physical contact. Maddox was 15 at the time and the reports of the event prompted an investigation by the FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Service. Bradd Pitt was, however, cleared at the end.
He spoke openly to GQ about the end of his marriage and admitted that around the time that Angelina Jolie called it quits, he had been drinking too heavily. Angelina Jolie has not been forthcoming with any details or reasons behind the split only stating to Vanity Fair in July 2017 that they were all trying to heal from the events that led to her filing of the divorce while praising her children’s strength through the process.
Brangelina may be no more but the two celebrities seem to be doing their best for their children with Brad Pitt stating that he had abandoned all substance use and, that they are both focused on co-parenting.
