Roles That Brought Anna Faris To Worldwide Fame and Why Her Marriages Ended In Divorce

Anna Faris is an American actress, singer, and voice actor whose career began in the theatres when she was nine years old – this was before she made the big shift to the mainstream. She has featured in several noteworthy projects such as the Scary Movie comic film series, The Dictator, and Mom, all of which have seen her nominated in various award categories in the movie industry.

Much like her glittering career, Anna Faris is often in the spotlight for her romantic entanglements which have not been as successful as her career endeavors. From her relationship with multi-award winning ex-husband, Chris Pratt to other interesting hookups, we dissect the areas of this Hollywood sweetheart’s life you didn’t know about.

Anna Faris Didn’t Really Commit To Acting Until After College

Going by the level of fame she has attained, it is hard to conclude that the actress didn’t start so early and she has no ancestral link to the performing arts. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 29th, 1976, the actress was named Anne Kay Faris by her American parents Jack and Karen Bathurst Faris, who were both educators. She has a brother who goes by the name, Robert Faris with whom she grew up in Baltimore prior to their relocation to Edmonds, Washington.

Anna had her high school education at Edmonds-Woodway High School where she graduated from in 1994. She finished her higher education in 1999 from the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature.

At a tender age of six, Faris expressed her artistic tendency which prompted her parents to help her join the community drama school. Inspired to pursue her dreams by her family, she clinched her first role in a theatre drama production Danger: Memory! when she was nine.

Faris was going to pursue a career as a receptionist in London after graduating from college but a last-minute decision landed her in Los Angeles. There, she set out to follow her passion to entertain and that seems to be the right call though the rise to fame didn’t come without putting in some hard work.

Anna Faris’ Early Days As A Budding Actress

Having landed her acting debut at the age of nine, Anna Faris did not have a hard time fitting into the industry. Though she started in the 1980s, her career picked up steam in the early 1990s. She continued appearing in theatre productions like To Kill a Mockingbird and Heidi and she also appeared in a frozen yoghurt TV commercial as a high school student, as well as other small roles on TV.

Her first significant role came after college on the set of Lovers Lane in 1999. While the film was critically panned, Anna Faris’ performance stood out as impressive, paving way for her big break in 2000.

She Got Her Breakout Role In Scary Movie Film Franchise

Depicting the character of Cindy Campbell in the Scary Movie proved to be the breakthrough Faris had been waiting for. Not only was it the first time she got a starring credit, but the film also received good reviews from critics. Scary Movie also grossed more than expected, $42 million in the opening weekend, and $278 million worldwide.

It didn’t come as a surprise when Faris earned a nod for Breakthrough Female Performance, as well as Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards (2001) for her depiction of Cindy Campbell. She went on to reprise the role in the next installment of the movie franchise. Scary Movie 2 was released in 2001. Now established as a star to be reckoned with, bigger roles began to come her way. Between 2002 and 2003, Faris starred in high-grossing projects like May, The Hot Chick, and Lost in Translation. Before the end of 2003, she went back to her Cindy Campbell character in Scary Movie 3.

Again, there was another break before the next Scary Movie film was released and she filled the gap with appearances in both the small and big screens. After reprising her role in the fourth installment of Scary Movie, which was presumed to be the last in the film series, a fifth one was released but Faris did not join the cast.

First Major TV Role And Other Endeavors

Anna Faris got her first main role on the small screen when she landed the part of Chisty on CBS sitcom, Mom. The show gave her the platform to further cement her stance as one of the best in comedic acting. Mom received mostly positive reviews from critics who also acknowledged Faris’ contributions to its success. She also went home with a Prism Award and two People’s Choice Awards.

Her other significant recent roles include but not limited to What’s Your Number (2011), The Emoji Movie (2017), Overboard (2018), and Toy Story 4 (2019).

Apart from being a screen actress, Faris sings beautifully as well. She has featured in more than four soundtracks so far including Love from Afar (2005) and Bad Bath and Bullshit (2007).

Her almost three-decade sojourn in the movie industry has seen her nominated in different categories for MTV, People’s Choice, Teens Choice, and Screen Actors Guild awards. She has also clinched a few such as a Fangoria Chainsaw award in the Best Supporting Actress category, followed by Stony and The National People Theatre Awards in 2007 and 2012 respectively.

She Was Married To Chris Pratt For Eight Years

Anna Faris was the wife of The Guardians Of The Galaxy star, Christopher Michael Pratt (fondly called Chris Pratt) for almost a decade. Their union was sealed in matrimony in July 2009, about two years after their paths crossed in 2007. She and Chris played each other’s love interests in Take Me Home Tonight and began dating afterward. They eloped to have a private wedding in Bali, Indonesia after which they started their life together.

They are parents to Jack, a son she bore in 2012. Born nine weeks premature, Jack had to spend the first one month of his life in the hospital which apparently paid off. Sadly, the highly publicized union between the two thespians did not last as the couple split in 2017 and by October 2018, their divorce was legally formalized without the usual spousal and child support drama that comes with most celebrity divorces. They have maintained an effective rapport and five-mile living distance from each other in order to effectively groom their only child.

Chris Pratt is an American actor popular for his role in Parks and Recreation, the fourth installment of Jurassic World, and Avengers: Infinity War movies. He is a native of Virginia, Minnesota, the USA, born on the 21st day of June 1979. Thanks to his appearances in several box office blockbusters, he is one of the successful actors in the industry.

Rumors about him being unfaithful at some point in their marriage may have led to the crash of the union but the former couple has not really opened up about the real reason behind their decision to part ways. He has now moved on with his love life as he is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, the daughter of renowned American actor cum politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger. They got married in 2019.

Before Pratt, There Was Ben Indra

Anna’s marriage to Chris Pratt was not her first as the actress was the wife of Ben Indra for three years from 2004 to 2008 before they parted ways. Like Pratt, she also met Indra on the set of a movie, this time, it was the 1999 indie slasher film Lovers Lane.

They became husband and wife in 2004 after dating for a while but in 2007, Faris filed for divorce from Indra on the basis of irreconcilable differences. Their divorce which was concluded in 2008 cost Anna Faris $900,000 as part of the settlement for the demised union. There were property and acting royalties involved in the settlement as well.

The Baltimore native wasted no time in moving on with Michael Barrett after she and her second husband Chris Pratt separated in 2017. It is reported that the duo met on the set of Overboard and they hit it off slowly in October 2017. Michael Bradley Barrett was born in Riverside, California, on the 28th of May 1970 and he is an alum of the University of California and Columbia University, New York. He is a renowned cinematographer noted for his works in Ted (2012) and Bang Bang (2005).

Anna and Chris, the former power couple, have all gone on double dates with their new partners and they seem to be getting on nicely. They also have plans of spending thanksgiving together in the future and yes, Anna is now engaged to Barrett. She made this known while talking to James Corden on The Late Late Show in February 2020.
