Given the ups and downs that Somizi Mhlongo has experienced in his life, it would not be out of place for one to conclude that the South African sweetheart is confused about his sexuality. Up until the time this entertainment icon tied the knot with Mohale Tebogo, many held on to the belief that he was still trying the cap that will fit perfectly. His earlier exploration led to the birth of his daughter Bahumi Madisakwane.
Asides from the not so straightforward love life, Somgaga as he is fondly called, has had an amazing, long, and relevant career over the years. Whether it’s in film making, choreography, reality TV shows, or writing, Somgaga is an all-round entertainer. Both on-screen and offstage, Somgaga knows how to draw the crowd’s attention. Of late, his relationship with his daughter has joined the long list of things that pique the interest of many.
The South African Entertainer Had His Daughter With Palesa Madisakwane When He Was 22
When Somgaga was 22 years old, precisely on the 9th of February 1995, Palesa Madisakwane bore him a baby girl. From the above, it is already clear that the child’s name is Bahumi Mholongo and she is currently 26 years old.
Palesa, his baby mama, who was a news anchor at the time, made an advance towards Somgaga. It has been claimed that the actor was upfront with her about his sexuality. He told her he was bisexual and had a boyfriend. Palesa didn’t really take him seriously, she was okay with just having a few hookups and suggested to Somizi that being bisexual means he can date both sexes. The man said yes because according to him, he thought he was bisexual at that time.
They ended up in a committed relationship but it wasn’t one that was meant to be. When she found out that Somgaga truly had a boyfriend, she couldn’t handle it and had to call it quits with him.
But as fate would have it, their separation didn’t happen before Bahumi was conceived. Somgaga assured her of his commitment to being a good father to their kid but made the fact that they couldn’t continue with the relationship clear as some clarity about his sexuality had come to light.
Bahumi Madisakwane Was Raised By Palesa and She’s Pursuing a Career in Entertainment
Born on the 9th of February, 1995, Bahumi has grown to walk in the footsteps of her dad in the entertainment industry. Even though it is obvious that her father has been a big part of her life and they have a good relationship, she was primarily raised by her mother.
Somgaga has confirmed this, praising Palesa for doing a great job. She has obviously raised an independent damsel that has taken the bull by the horn as long as life is concerned.
Being born by such parents certainly comes with its merits, Bahumi was born for the camera and she wasted no time in embracing her path. She played Zola in the popular telenovela, “Keeping score”, which happens to be her most notable work at the moment asides from staring in her dad’s reality TV show.
Somizi Mhlongo’s Daughter Suffers Lymphedema
Bahumi’s fans were confused on the 5th of April after she posted a picture on her Instagram account. It was more than a picture and more of Bahumi’s way of telling her fans about a health condition she has been battling.
From the picture, her legs were obviously not of the same size, she has been suffering from a condition called Lymphedema. According to medical experts, the condition is manageable but not curable; and it makes certain parts of the body swell.
Mhlongo Discovered He Wasn’t Straight When He Was a Kid
While growing up, Somgaga was under a lot of pressure as so many people had a lot of expectations on what they wanted him to be, his father and the media especially.
Somizi Mhlongo found out very early in life that he was gay but wasn’t really comfortable to open up to his family at the time. The reason for this is not far-fetched, the kind of strict upbringing he had didn’t make room for such things.
When a little independence came to his life and it was finally time to speak up, he faced the same kind of pressure; not from his father but from the media this time. For fear of his career going down the drain, he had to stay in the closet. He became comfortable in his skin just a few months before hooking up with his baby mama, at least he was bold enough to tell her about his interest in both genders at the time.
The actor didn’t flip a coin and chose to stick with guys. Even though details of how he became convinced he was gay is sketchy, it is no longer news that he’s proudly gay.
He Has Been Married To Mohale Tebogo Motaung Since 2019
The South African actor is married to Mohale Motaung who was born just a year before his daughter. Mohale happens to be a young entrepreneur, a fashionista, and an actor.
Although critics have constantly accused Mohale of being a gold digger, looking at his portfolio, one can’t find any truth to what they are saying. Add being an economics graduate to his portfolio and one can conclude that being married to South Africa’s sweetheart is just the icing on his cake.
The Couple Met at One of Somizi’s Book Launch
As the story goes, Somizi met the love of his life at an event held to launch his book and it was love at first sight for him. He could even recall that Mohale was number 13 on the line that evening.
After that, they met up and started going on dates. Not up to two years after, they were married. They got engaged while on vacation in France and had a traditional wedding on the 28th of September 2019. A white wedding followed on the 30th of January 2020.
