Babcock University is one of the recognized private institutions of higher learning in Nigeria. The university runs many courses under different faculties, including Administration, Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, and many more. All prospective students who have been offered provisional admission into these faculties are expected to pay specific amounts as fees.
Attending Babcock University is a thing of pride among students because the fees paid at the institution have made it one of the most expensive universities in the country. However, what each student pays will differ depending on their respective course of study. Below is a list of all the courses offered at the university, including the fees they attract.
Brief History of Babcock University
The institution’s name has not always been Babcock University. Upon its establishment in 1959, it was named the Adventist College of West Africa and identified with the acronym, ACWA. The Seventh-day Adventist Church takes the credit for the establishment of the institution; their aim then was to use it as one of their senior colleges, focused on training members from the West African sub-region who wish to become church workers. The first batch of ACWA students were seven in number and were hosted at Chief Olufemi Okulaja’s home. The institution changed its name in 1975 and became known as Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA).
The inauguration of Babcock University was officially done on the 20th of April 1999 and it was named after David C. Babcock – an American missionary and a pioneer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. Babcock arrived in the country in 1914 and settled in Oyo State Nigeria, precisely in Erunmu.
The initial batch of Babcock University students was 1,006 and they arrived on the 13th of September 1999. Their matriculation ceremony occurred on the 28th of January 2000 and was presided over by Pastor/Professor Jan Paulsen from Washington, D.C, USA. Paulson is the president of the religious institution’s general conference as well as the recognized world leader of the church.
The university settled down for academic activities with a total of three faculties that later graduated into schools. They include the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Education and Humanities, and the Faculty of Science and Technology. The departments then were only 11 and before long, a fourth school was added – the School of Law and Security Studies. Babcock’s post-graduate school started operation in 2010, during the third quarter. Barely a couple of years later in January 2012, the university’s school of medicine became functional. The latest additions were witnessed in the School of Education & Humanities – Educational Foundations departments and Music & Creative.

Babcock University Acceptance Fee
Once a prospective student is offered provisional admission at Babcock University, he or she is expected to indicate interest in the offer by the payment of an acceptance fee. All candidates, excluding those for Medicine & Surgery and Law, must, therefore, visit the banks to pay the sum of N150,000.00 (One Hundred & Fifty Thousand Naira); this is called a non-refundable acceptance fee and is also part of your school fees. Payment is to be made via the E-tranzact payment platform, and you must use your application ID (a five digits number) as a reference. Move to any of the banks to make payments through the E-tranzact payment platform;
- Diamond
- UBA
- WEMA
- Zenith
- GT Bank
- First Bank
The next category of students is those offered admissions to study for MBBS Medicine & Surgery and LLB (Hons) LAW. These students are advised to first see the School Officer at Babcock with their credentials. From there, they will get what is known as “AUTHORITY TO PAY” and also collect their admission letter.
All these must be in place before any law or medical student can go for the payment of his or her acceptance fee at the bank. In this case, the approved non-refundable acceptance fee is N300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) and it is considered to be part of the overall fees. Candidates must leverage the E-transact payment platform for payment and the application ID must be used as a reference. These are the banks approved for this payment;
- UBA
- Diamond
- WEMA
- Zenith
- GT Bank
- First Bank
Babcock University wishes to warn candidates to desist from paying money to individuals or groups within or outside the university as this may lead to loss of funds.
General Rules For The Payment Of Fees
- The amount expected to be paid by both freshers and returning undergraduate students at Babcock University comprises tuition, accommodation, meals, and miscellaneous.
- The meal plan comes with options and it is left for you to choose the one you can afford.
- The school management has a list of approved banks for the collection of these fees and students are advised to pay as early as possible.
- Apart from being present at the banks to effect payment for school fees, students of Babcock University can leverage alternative channels such as the Automated Teller Machine to pay their tuition and acceptance fees. This can be done using a Master or Visa card.
- Depending on your capacity, you can choose to pay your Babcock school fees every semester or make a full payment for the entire session.
- For those paying per semester, they must complete half of the fee amount at the beginning of the first semester and pay the remaining half the next semester
While Babcock remains most people’s dream university, many are drawn back by the fees as the institution of higher learning appeared on the list of the ten most expensive universities in Nigeria.
