She spent the first seven years of her life in Russia before her family moved to Tel Aviv, Israel. In Tel Aviv, Paly’s parents treated her to various artistic pursuits including the ballet, the opera as well as museum exhibitions. She thus naturally developed an interest in the performing arts and enrolled to study at the Aleph High School of The Arts in Tel Aviv. During her time in school, Paly took part in several productions including plays by Shakespeare and Brecht.

On leaving school, Bar Paly joined the modeling world and used her paychecks to finance her acting classes. She then continued auditioning for roles and finally got her first acting gig in the 2003 mockumentary, Zehirut Matzlema. Paly appeared in several other Israeli productions before making the decision to either ‘go big or go home’. She thus packed up her bags, bought a ticket, and headed out to Los Angeles in 2005. In the city of angels, Paly initially struggled with weather and traffic issues. She, however, persevered and the rest, as they say, is history.

The actress was previously married to screenwriter and director, Ian Kessner. Her ex-husband, Ian, is a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and studied at the University of Western Ontario. He also attended NYU’s Summer Film Program and in 2002, he obtained an MFA in directing from the American Film Institute. Kessner has written the scripts for several movies and has also produced and directed some acclaimed projects including Twisted Puppy, Lost After Dark, Hush Little baby, and The Puzzle and more.

Paly and Kessner tied the knot in 2009 and they were married for 11 years. The actress later filed for divorce in August 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple did not have any children together.

On the big screen, the Israeli beauty has featured in movies such as The Ruins, A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III, Non-Stop, Million Dollar Arm, Street Level, Urge, and Lost Girls. She also appeared in Pain and Gain, a 2013 dark comedy that is loosely based on a real-life Miami gang, the Sun Gym Gang. The gang kidnapped, tortured, and even murdered some businessmen in a bid to take over their wealth. The movie featured Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Mackie, and Dwayne Johnson as the gang members while Paly played the role of Sorina Luminata, an Eastern-European stripper who is recruited by the group to aid them in their nefarious activities. The movie received mixed reviews but performed decently at the box office.

On the small screens, Bar Paly has scored guest roles on TV series such as How I Met Your Mother, Unhitched, The Starter Wife, CS: NY, Game Shop, Training Day, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Bosch. The series revolves around a special ops division of the NCIS and the undercover assignments they embark on. Paly joined the show in 2015 and plays the role of Anna Kolcheck, the estranged daughter of a former KGB agent – Arkady Kolcheck.
