Biography

Ben Stiller was born as Benjamin Edward Meara Stiller on November 30, 1965, in New York. His parents were juggernauts in the entertainment industry. He grew up in Manhattan’s Upper West Side and was able to kick off his acting career when he was about nine years of age, playing a role in the short-lived TV series Kate McShane. He then went on to perform with the New York City troupe NYC’s First All Children’s Theater where he played a couple of roles.

Stiller received his high school education at The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine but finished from the Calhoun School in New York. He then went on to enroll at the University of California, Los Angeles for further studies but quit after just nine months to launch his career. He soon landed a small role in the TV show Guiding Light (aired from 1952 -2009), and Broadway theatre production The House of Blue Leaves.

Ben Stiller’s big break in the industry came after he starred in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun in 1987. He then went on to join Saturday Night Live as a writer and cast member, but later chose to leave the show due to creative differences. This prompted him to start up his own satirical talk show The Ben Stiller Show along with other fellow comedians like Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, and Jeff Khan. The show ran 13 episodes before it was canceled in 1992.

Stiller has since starred in over 80 films and 50 TV series, some of which he either directed, produced or wrote its screenplay. Ben Stiller was previously married to Christine Taylor, an actress whose notable work was as Marcia Brady in the movie The Brady Bunch (1995). The two first met in 1998 on the set of Heat Vision and Jack. After dating for a while, they tied the knot in May of 2000 in Kauai, Hawaii. Their union was blessed with two kids; Ella Olivia Stiller and Quinlin Dempsey Stiller before they chose to separate in 2017.

As mentioned above, the comic entertainer was born to Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, who were both high profile comedians and actors during their time in the 70s and 80s. He appeared alongside them in the 1995 comedy film Heavyweights where he played two roles.

The Stiller family has a rich mixed Jewish, Irish, Polish and Galicia ethnicity. His mom was from a Catholic family but changed religion to Reform Judaism after marriage. Sadly in May 2015, she passed on after suffering a series of strokes.
