Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Sunyani, Bono Region has a long story behind its establishment. In 1972, the Ministry of Health constructed the structure (including a hostel block, block for the admin, and one staff flat accommodations) but they couldn’t commence the training of SRN (State Registered Nurses) owing to the prevailing political dispensation then.

Thus, the buildings were offered to Regional Health Directorate staff, Regional Hospital, and International Hospital Group to be utilized as office space for their operations. This period of hibernation continued for over three decades until 2004 when the then Brong-Ahafo Region’s Regional Director of Health Service, Alhaji Dr. Ibn Ibrahim, reactivated the establishment.

On the 1st of October 2004, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Sunyani, Bono Region became operational and was accredited by the NMC as a Nurses Training School offering a Diploma program in General Nursing. The college later admitted its first batch of students, consisting of 19 females and 21 males, totaling 40.

In 2007, the nursing training college introduced RNAC (Registered Nurse Assistant clinical), formerly HAC (Health Assistant Clinical) which commenced at the Municipal Hospital with 55 students. The National Accreditation Board of Ghana accredited the nursing training school.

The nursing school started preparing to launch its Midwifery program in 2013 but this became a reality in 2015 with 130 students as the pioneers.
