Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail- Pro-Biafra groups all over country and beyond unleashed massive jubilation over the anticipated release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The IPOB leader has been illegally detained since October 2015.
Amidst the jubilation observers have ridiculed the bail condition given by Justice Binta Nyako who presided over the case.
According to Nyako, Nnamdi’s bail was on health grounds. For his bail, Nnamdi is expected to produce
- Highly respected and recognized Jewish leader
- Highly placed person of Igbo extraction such as a Senator
- Highly respected person who is resident and owns landed property in Abuja
Adding to that, each of the sureties are expected to deposit N100 million each.
The Judge also ordered the IPOB leader to steer clear of any interviews and rallies.
“I must stress it here that the defendant must not attend any rally. He must not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons”
Nnamdi Kanu’s series of trials will go down in Nigerian history as one of the most unprecedented and controversial of all times.
More than twice, the Biafran representative was denied bail in court. With the ambiguous bail conditions, many still doubt if the bail was genuine.
The parents of the IPOB leader, His Royal Highness, Eze Israel Kanu, and his wife Ugoeze Sally Kanu have rejected the bail conditions given for the release of their son.
They insist that their son, Nnamdi Kanu’s bail should be unconditional.
“The bail conditions was like giving something with one hand and taking it with the other hand.”
“The IPOB leader must be set free without any condition attached.”
“The federal government should release my son unconditionally. The world should judge if the bail conditions are proper.”
Eze Israel Kanu found it uncalled for that the Federal High Court would demand a surety who is a foreigner. He equally found the N100 million bond condition preposterous.
Seconding his opinion, his wife and mother of the IPOB leader says she has no intention of dissuading Nnamdi Kanu from pursuing his Biafra vision.
Ugoeze says thanks to her son, the world is aware of the problems between Nigerian and Pro-Biafran societies.
“No retreat, no surrender; God will deliver Biafra as He delivered Israel”
MASSOB leader Comrade Uchenna Madu issued a statement over Nnamdi Kanu’s bail.
“The bail granted to our brother today is a triumphant sign of light over darkness. It is a motivational factor that Biafra will always triumph over Nigeria.”
“Know that we are the true representations of Biafra and genuine struggle for the liberation of the people of Biafra”.
“Nnamdi Kanu and others won’t be an exception. He represent the interest of the people of Biafra, he is not a criminal”
Comrade Uchenna Madu used the opportunity to than South-east governors and Governor Fayose who played a role in securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He also demanded the release of Pro-Biafrans who were in detention in Anambra state.
Vanguard reports that Kanu’s co-defendants, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi were denied bail by the Federal High court. Their own trial will continue on July 11 and 12.
