Bobby Brown – Biography
Robert Barisford Brown came to be on the 5th day of February 1969 when he was born in Boston Massachusetts. He grew up in Roxbury’s Orchard Park Projects, a notorious neighborhood in Massachusetts. At the tender age of three, he had his first stage performance on the same stage his music idol, James Brown in his neighborhood of Boston. There and then, Bobby decided to be as famous as his idol.
He pitched a tent with New Edition pop music group at age 9 where his music career took off in earnest. The group which was made up of his friends Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Travis Pettus, and Corey Rackley got their first recording deal with Arthur Baker’s Streetwise Records which saw to the release of their debut album Candy Girl on March 1, 1983. The album was widely received and it sold millions of copies. Their second and self-titled album (New Edition) came next in 1984 and was followed by one other album titled All for Love released in 1985.
Having created a good name with the band, Bobby Brown soon left to launch his solo career by signing up with MCA Records where he released his first solo album titled King of Stage in 1986 which did not fare so well. His second studio album Don’t Be Cruel fared so much better selling over twelve million copies. It eventually became the best-selling album of 1989 earning Bobby three awards; The American Music Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and a People’s Choice Award. Bobby was born to mother Carole Elizabeth and father Herbart James Brown. His mother was a substitute teacher while his father worked as a construction worker. After his marriage ended in 2007, Bobby started dating Alicia Etheredge who later became his second wife in June of 2012. The couple has three children; a son, Cassius Brown born on May 31, 2009 (three years before they wedded), two daughters, Bodhi Jameson Rein Brown and Hendrix Estelle Sheba Brown born on July 9, 2015, and July 21, 2016, respectively.
