Buhari’s 2019 Presidential Bid – The Nigerian presidency has confirmed that Buhari will be returning for the 2019 presidential race.
The announcement is not exactly unexpected or surprising as the APC had earlier suggested that Buhari has the green light if he has any interest to run again.
It was barely one year of Buhari’s democratic regime when the APC Caucus gave him a go ahead “if he so wishes to run again”.
Generally speaking, what is surprising is that the constitution has not bluntly said leaders are entitled to 8 straight years in office.
7 months after the party’s 2019 endorsement, the Presidency in clear terms has indicated interest to run again for the office.
With the series of economic setback and hardship in the country, many add that the president may not have a fluid race in 2019.
Former member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Alhaji Buba Galadima, says that Nigerians will largely abandon Buhari if he runs again for 2019 elections.
Courtesy of Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, the notion as interjected saying that the “suggestions that the masses will desert President Buhari in 2019 was unfounded and utterly ridiculous.”
“Ordinary Nigerians are the backbone of his mandate and the only reason he ran for the office is to protect them against the rapacious merchants of corruption, who have held Nigeria back for decades. Galadima’s calculation and prediction are utterly confused and misleading.
“The masses are solidly behind Buhari because he is not stealing their money and their future.
“President’s enormous goodwill remains ever strong because the people are convinced the President is acting in their best interest, despite the temporary unintended consequences of reforms.”
Garba Shehu says that Buhari’s 2019 presidential bid has the backing of the ordinary people whom Galadima had no right to speak for.
Galadima may not be the only one who foresees the nation shunning the return of the incumbent president. Lately there has been calls from various groups requesting past president Goodluck Jonathan to equally return to the race.
