Most people know Caitlin McHugh as the wife of the popular TV actor, John Stamos. However, there is much more to this gorgeous lady than meets the eye. McHugh is also an accomplished star in her own right and has established a thriving career in modelling and acting.
The former has seen her work for brands like Colgate toothpaste and Buick. Via her work in the latter, she is connected to popular projects on TV and films like The Vampire Diaries, I Am Legend, and NCIS: Los Angeles. But, it is her marriage to John Stamos that anchors Caitlin McHugh to the spotlight, and we have the lowdown on how it all came to be.
Meet Caitlin McHugh, The Model, And Actress
Caitlin Maureen McHugh was born on May 13, 1986, in Altadena, California. She is of mixed ethnicity comprising of Filipino ancestry on her mother’s side and Irish ancestry on her father’s side. Her father’s name is Timothy McHugh, while her mother is identified as Leilani. There are no details available on any potential siblings that McHugh may have.
Caitlin McHugh spent her formative years in California. She is a well-educated lady and attended schools such as the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, graduating in 2004. For college, Caitlin McHugh left home for the state of North Carolina. While there, she studied Contemporary Dance at the School of Arts, University of North Carolina, graduating in 2006.
She commenced her career a year after leaving college. One of her earliest film credits came in the 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi/horror film – I am Legend. The movie featured Will Smith as a virologist who survives a wiping-out of all human beings on earth. Caitlin contributed to the film’s successful box office run of $500 million by playing a minor role as a special blond model.
Since that humble debut, Caitlin McHugh has gone on to acquire a filmography comprising of several movies and TV series. On the small screen, she has featured on TV shows such as NCIS: Los Angeles, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Castle, Blue Blood, Rescue Me, Guilty, Kings, Switched at Birth, and The Vampire Diaries. She has also featured in movies such as Random Tropic Paradise (2017), 48 Hours to Live (2016), Alleged (2012), and Passing Train (2007).
Her Most Notable Work Is On Television
Maybe it is the effect of an active modelling career or a lack of roles, but she made her debut in 2007, Caitlin McHugh has had a limited presence on screen. Not just in terms of her number of roles but the quality. Most of her 17+ credits are minor roles across films and TV projects.
Caitlin’s most notable onscreen role is in the CW fantasy drama, The Vampire Diaries. In it, she had a recurring role as Sloan in the fifth season of the show. Her character, as a mystery benefactor, spanned four episodes, starting with 13th episode, Total Eclipse of the Heart, and ended with the 19th episode, Man on Fire.
Another notable role was playing Charlie in the 2017 short film, Ingenue-ish. Aside from starring in the short piece, she also wrote it, alongside John Stamos. Since she began acting, she has received one award, for her performance in Alleged, from First Run Festival for Best Acting Performance.
She Has A Modest Modelling Career
One reason Caitlin may not have the strongest filmography as an actress might be down to her career in modelling. She signed with the popular modelling agency, Wilhelmina Models in 2016 and has gone on to appear in a few TV commercials and magazines.
Most notably, she has starred in commercials for Colgate Toothpaste and Buick’s ‘Encore.’ In magazines, Caitlin McHugh has posed for two issues of Brides Magazine, in March 2009 and September 2008. Together with her husband, she held the title for People’s Most Beautiful Family in 2019.
In recent years, Caitlin’s acting and modelling presence has tapered off. It might have something to do with her personal life, which has seen two marriages and one divorce within a decade.
Caitlin McHugh Has Been Married To John Stamos Since 2018
Caitlin McHugh is married to John Stamos, an award-winning actor who has enjoyed much success on TV. Some of his most notable TV shows include General Hospital, Full House, ER, Grandfathered, Fuller House, and You. Caitlin McHugh and Stamos first met in 2011 during the filming of an episode of Law and Order: SVU.
Ironically, in the episode, John Stamos played a character who went around illegally spreading his seed by poking holes in condoms, and Caitlin played one of his potential victims.
At the time, Caitlin was in a relationship, so nothing came off their interactions. Years afterwards, the couple met during the taping of an episode of Fuller House. Although she did not star in the episode, Caitlin was in the audience supporting her roommate, who was participating on the show. Eventually, Caitlin and Stamos saw each other again, and the rest has become history.
Two Years After, They Are Pregnant And Engaged
Shortly after that fateful reacquaintance in the studio, Stamos and Caitlin McHugh began a relationship. Stamos was drawn to her wit and Caitlin, to his charm. After two years of dating, John proposed to her at her favourite place in the world, Disneyland. For the proposal, He arranged an elaborate montage of romantic moments from Disney and Pixar animations, ending in Sebastian’s The Little Mermaid iconic line, ‘Just ask the girl.’
They got engaged in October 2017, and less than two months after, they were pregnant. The couple allegedly chose to have a baby before their wedding because Stamos was old.
Caitlin McHugh And Stamos Became Husband & Wife, As Well As Parents In 2018
The couple tied the knot on February 3, 2018, in a ceremony that took place in Studio City, California. They got married in a romantic church service at Little Brown Church in a lavish ceremony that featured Caitlin in a strapless ballgown. A day before their wedding, the couple fell victim to a robbery that cost them $165,000 worth of jewellery.
Caitlin and John Stamos held the reception at their home in Beverly Hills, and two months later, they announced the arrival of their son, William (Billy) Christopher Stamos. The couple named him after the actor’s father, fulfilling Stamos’s longtime dream of becoming a dad. The family lives in a $5.8 million house bought by the actor in 2005.
Her First Marriage Was To A Restauranteur
Before Caitlin and John Stamos began their ongoing love story, she had a brief one with Massimo Lusardi, a restauranteur. He is the director of Yorkville, Restaurant Group, LLC. The relationship led to a marriage on June 3, 2011, but it lasted a couple of months before they parted ways.
Fans of the actress/model have wondered what went wrong, but like the marriage itself, Caitlin McHugh is happy to let it die in the past. So far, she remains tight-lipped on the cause of their divorce. For now, we presume their marriage was the result of a long wild fling that inevitably died after the excitement cooled off. Despite separating within a couple of months of being married, the couple did not get divorced until 2014.
