Then you are in the right place.
Carol McCain – Bio (Age)
Carol McCain (nee Shepp) was born on the 19th of February 1938 in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Her father’s name was Joseph while her mother’s name was Mary. Carol attended the Lansdowne-Aldan High School and graduated in 1955. For college, she attended the Centenary Junior College for Women where she studied English. On leaving college, Carol McCain first worked as a model before going on to become a secretary. She later had an accomplished career as a political aide, event planner, and PR official. Due to her husband’s time as a Prisoner Of War, he became a national hero when he returned to The States. The couple were guest of honors at many social events and developed friendships with renowned personalities including future president and first lady, Ronald and Nancy Regan.
It was The Regans who helped Carol McCain with a job as an assistant to Nancy Reagan. From there, she worked on other projects for them including the 1980 presidential campaign as well as the 1981 inaugural ball. McCain was subsequently appointed a director of the White House Visitors Office in 1981. The White House Visitors Office is in charge of organizing public tours of The White House as well as other events such as The White House Easter Egg Roll. This was a highly stressful job but McCain handled it with grace. She spent six years in her directorial position and left the role in 1987. She subsequently worked as a media officer for several private organizations before retiring.
Husband And Kids
Carol McCain was married twice in her lifetime. Her first marriage was to a naval student named Alasdair Swanson in 1958. Their union lasted for six years and produced two sons named Douglas and Andy. McCain later divorced Swanson on grounds of infidelity in 1964. She met John McCain that same year and they commenced a relationship. They dated for one year and tied the knot in July 1965. John adopted her sons and they also had a daughter named Sydney. The couple’s happiness turned sour during the Vietnam war. John was serving as a fighter pilot and was shot down and captured in 1967. He would spend the next five and a half years in torture and captivity. Things were not rosy either on the home front. Carol McCain, who had been an active member of the POW/MIA cause, was involved in a terrible car accident on Christmas Eve in 1969.
She sustained grave injuries including two crushed legs. She had to undergo over 23 operations over two years as well as extensive therapy. McCain was able to regain the use of her legs but the rehab left her 4 inches shorter and walking with a limp. She also gained significant weight. Her husband regained his freedom in 1973 and they continued their marriage. They, however, grew apart thanks to his partying and infidelity. The couple later divorced in 1980 and McCain got child support, houses as well as continued support for her medical expenses. John McCain subsequently married his second wife, Cindy Hensley, in 1980. He tried to maintain that he was already separated from Carol before he started dating Cindy but official records show otherwise. He thus admitted that the whole episode was his greatest moral failure.
Where Is She Now?
The last we heard, Carol McCain is now based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She maintained a cordial relationship with her ex-husband despite the fact that he left her for a younger woman. When John McCain was running for president in 2008, many of his opponents came to her in order to obtain dirt on him but she turned them back. Carol McCain never remarried even though she was involved in some romantic relationships. Close associates have attributed this to the fact that the late senator was her one true love. With regard to her kids, they are all grown now. Doug is a commercial pilot, Sydney is a musician while Andy is a business executive.
