The media mogul was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on March 21, 1970. By the time he was 8 years old, his family up and moved to the United States of America and he spent the most part of his adolescence in East Brunswick, New Jersey. As is typical of people of Turkish descent, he was raised in a secular Muslim household. He had a brief period of devoutness during his college days but is now agnostic. Cenk Uygur got his high school diploma from East Brunswick High School and a management degree from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has lived quite the life while studying at the University of Pennsylvania where he got to play rugby with Greg Lippmann.

In all this, he was sure to keep his interest in Turkish affairs alive. He was an active member of the Student Activities Council representing the Turkish Students Association. He did not stop there with the degrees though, he was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School. That degree landed him some work as an associate attorney at two law firms; one in the big apple and the other in Washington D.C.
