Charlie Sheen is one of those Hollywood actors who could have achieved legendary status in the industry if only they did not succumb to the vices that come with fame and fortune.

The Golden Globe Award-winning actor is best known for appearing in movies and series like ‘Platoon’ (1986), ‘Wall Street’ (1987), ‘Spin City’ (2002), ‘Two and a Half Men’ (2003–2011), and ‘Anger Management’ (2012–2014).

Early Life and Rise To Fame

Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estevez to Janet (nee Templeton) and Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez on September 3, 1965, in New York. His father is an actor better known by the name Martin Sheen which he chooses to go by in honour of the casting director that gave him his big break and the Catholic Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

Sheen attended Santa Monica High School which had other future actors such as Sean Penn and Robert Downey. Jr., as attendees at the time. He excelled in sports, playing as a pitcher and shortstop for the school’s baseball team. He also showed an interest in acting as he had already appeared alongside his father in the film ‘The Execution of Private Slovik’ (1974) at the young age of nine.

Just before graduation, Charlie Sheen got expelled from school because of his bad grades and poor attendance. This prompted him to change his name officially from Carlos to Charlie and take his father’s stage name to pursue a career as an actor. He went on to make his acting debut in the teen war drama ‘Red Dawn’ (1984).

Charlie Sheen’s Net Worth

In the 1980s, Charlie Sheen was among the most popular actors in Hollywood having starred in movies like ‘Platoon’ (1986) and ‘Wall Street’ (1987). However, his reputation as a bad boy womanizer and drug abuser affected the amount and kind of work he was able to land.

Nonetheless, that did not stop him from becoming the highest paid actor on television. This was for his role as Charlie Harper in ‘Two and a Half Men’ for which he earned as much as $1.8 million per episode. As of 2018, Sheen is said to have an estimated net worth of $20 million.

Charlie Sheen has been linked to quite a huge number of women over the years but has, however, only been married thrice, of which all ended in divorce. His first marriage was to Donna Peele in September 1995. The union ended less than a year later after it was reported that Sheen frequently patronized an escort agency while they were together.

In June 2002, Sheen married actress Denise Richards with whom he has two daughters; Sam, born on March 9, 2004, and Lola Rose, born on the 1st of June 2005. The marriage ended just before their second daughter was born as Richards filed for divorce citing Sheen’s threats of violence and substance abuse. The divorce was finalized in November 2006.

His third marriage was to actress and real estate investor Brooke Mueller in May 2008. Together, the couple has twin boys; Bob and Max who was born on the 15th of March, 2009. A year later, in November 2010, Sheen filed for divorce for unknown reasons.

HIV Status Update

On November 17, 2015, Charlie Sheen revealed that he was diagnosed with HIV in 2011. He said he had been taking anti-retroviral drugs since that time and has had to pay different people approximately $10 million to keep his status a secret.

With this, he faced several lawsuits from different women he had sexual relationships with; they accused him of not being upfront with his HIV positive status.

Is He Gay?

From all we have seen of Charlie Sheen in the past two decades, it is hard to accuse him of being gay – the public won’t buy the story. However, this did not stop actor Dominick Brascia from accusing Sheen of sodomizing his co-star on ‘Lucas’ (1986), the late Corey Haim, during the time they shot the movie. Brascia claimed that Haim, who died in 2010, told him that he and Sheen smoked marijuana before having sex with each other.

The accusation brought to light claims made by one of Sheen’s ex-wives, Denise Richards, who in a sworn statement from court proceedings during their divorce, stated that she caught her husband watching gay pornography of underage boys. Sheen has absolutely denied all the accusations and has further revealed that when the allegations were made, the FBI collected all his computers and found no evidence of wrongdoing.
