English actress Charlotte Hope always knew she wanted to be an actor even though she was barred from watching television as a child. The first time she ever saw a film was at a friend’s sleepover and once she started, she could not stop.

Although the beginning of her career was hard and marked by a lot of failed auditions for three years after her graduation from the university, the actress kept pushing until she eventually got her breakthrough with the role of Myranda in the drama series Game of Thrones and Philippa Hawking in the 2014 biopic, The Theory of Everything.

Charlotte Hope Biography

Born on the 15th of October 1991, in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, Charlotte Hope is a native of Lower Daggons, a small hamlet in New Forest, Hampshire, England. She is a British national and belongs to white ethnicity.

From the little information we could gather about her family, we discovered that her father, a barrister, used to be a jockey while her mother worked as a PR officer before becoming a housewife. Charlotte also has a younger sister named Emily but we are yet to know for sure whether she is her only sibling.

Given her chosen career path which she had always nursed from the time she was little, it is funny that when Charlotte was a child, she was prohibited from watching television. However, she got a chance to see her first film, Titanic, during a sleepover at a friend’s house and once she started watching films, she could not suppress the urge to keep watching as her desire to be an actress grew.

Charlotte Hope attended the University of Oxford from where she graduated with a degree in French and Spanish. Three years after her graduation from the university, her attempts at landing an acting job were futile so in a bid to make ends meet, she had to work as a waitress and in bars.

In a bid to hone her acting skill, she spent one year in Paris training at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq theater school and would spend her spare time seeing movies at the cinema. While there, she met a casting agent for a French film by chance in the street and that was how her professional acting career kicked off with the role of a factory woman in the musical Les Miserables. After that she wrote to agents, inviting them to see a play she was in and luckily for her, one of them signed her.

By the time she got her break in 2013 with the role of Ramsay Bolton’s love interest, Myranda in HBO’s fantasy drama series, Game of Thrones, the time she spent crying after failed auditions for 3 years became a distant memory.

She was announced for the role on 28 June 2012 and her character in the series was supposed to appear in only one scene but because she wowed the producers with her performance, they wrote her character into the next seasons until the character was killed in season 6. In all, she appeared in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons from 2013 to 2016. According to Charlotte Hope, her time on the show was ‘total magic’. The young actress also played the role of a prostitute in Felicity Jones’ The Invisible Woman in 2013.

In 2014, she featured in the second season of The Musketeers and also played the role of Stephen Hawking’s younger sister, Philippa Hawking, in the film The Theory of Everything. The following year, she landed a lead role in the film North v South and later went on to feature in Olly Murs’ music video for the song “Beautiful to Me”.

Subsequently, we saw the actress appearing in two of 2016 big movies, A United Kingdom and the romantic thriller Allied. In the latter, Charlotte Hope featured alongside one of her favorite actors, David Oyelowo, and would even go to set on her days off just so she could watch him perform.

In 2017, she acted in the drama film Three Christs, alongside Richard Gere and Peter Dinklage, playing a supporting role as an assistant to Richard, who played the role of a psychiatrist treating three women who believe they are Christ’s reincarnation. She followed this up the next year by co-starring in the horror film The Nun, which is a spin-off of the 2016 movie, The Conjuring 2.

Hope is working in the upcoming television miniseries, The Spanish Princess, in which she portrayed the character of Catherine of Aragon. Considering the rate at which she is growing in the acting business, it will not be long before younger actors start watching her for inspiration.
