Christina Aguilera is one of the hottest breakout stars of the late 90s and early 2000s. Her near perfect physique and high sultry voice made her one hell of a singer and performer. Having sold a total of 75 million records worldwide, Forbes named her the 19th richest woman in entertainment in 2007. Though she hasn’t done much in terms of music in recent times, she still keeps fans wanting more of her with her incredible role as a judge on the “Voice.” Interestingly, she became the first female coach to win the show. Read on for more awe-inspiring details about Christina.

Christina Aguilera’s Bio

The blond bombshell was born as Christina María Aguilera in the Staten Island borough of New York City, on the 18th of December, 1980 to parents Fausto Xavier Aguilera and Shelly Loraine Kearns. She has a younger sister named Rachel Aguilera whom she loves dearly. Christina didn’t have much of a happy childhood and this was because her father was physically and emotionally abusive and the music was her mode of escape as it brought her joy and happiness. When she was six years of age, her mother got divorced from her father and remarried to Jim Kearns with whom she had a son (Michael ‘Mikey’ Kearns). They ended up staying in the Pittsburgh suburb of Rochester, Pennsylvania with her grandmother after her mother also left Jim.

Growing up, Christina was known as “the little girl with the big voice” in her neighborhood. As early as she could remember, becoming a singer was all she dreamed about and she tried to signup for as many local talent competitions and shows as she could find. At the tender age of 8, Christina won her very first talent show by singing one of Whitney Houston’s smash hit songs “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).”

She studied at Rochester Area School District located in Rochester and changed to Marshall Middle School located close to Wexford. For high school, she briefly attended North Allegheny Intermediate High School but she experienced continuous bullying there which made her mother decide to homeschool her.

Career Start, Albums And Movies

Her very first song was recorded at the age of fourteen, a duet titled “All I Wanna Do” which she made with Japanese singer, Keizo Nakanishi. She later got the chance to record the theme song, Reflection, for the 1998 Disney animated film Mulan, after she had previously sent in a cover version of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You.”

The song, Reflection, shot to the number 19 spot on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart giving Christina a chance at major success. She was quickly contacted by RCA Records A&R Ron Fair and a record deal was signed. This was also at the time when there was a teen pop craze. Seeing the success of her peer, Britney Spears, the label tried to brand her image to follow suit. Therefore, a lead single titled, “Genie in a Bottle” was released in 1999 to critical acclaim, becoming one of the best selling singles worldwide, with over 7 million copies sold.

So far she has released a total of 8 albums including; Christina Aguilera released in 1999, Mi Reflejo in 2000, My Kind of Christmas in 2000, Stripped in 2002, Back to Basics in 2006, Bionic in 2010, Lotus in 2012, Liberation in 2018. She has also featured in some movies as well as animations including; Burlesque (2010), The Emoji Movie (2017), Zoe (2018).
