Gugudan has made a name for itself in the K-Pop world, with Gugudan members having fans rooting for them every step of the way. Often stylized as gu9udan, the band is a female idol group from Jellyfish Entertainment and they are the sister group to VIXX. Just as VIXX was Jellyfish’s first male idol group, Gugudan is Jellyfish’s first female idol group.
Founded on the 28th of June 2016, the original Gugudan members were Hana, Mimi, Haebin, Nayoung, Sejeong, Sally, Soyee, Mina, and Hyeyeon. Gugudan debuted on June 28, 2016, with the mini-album Act. 1 The Little Mermaid. They promoted the release of the album with the song Wonderland. The group released their second mini-album titled Act. 2 Narcissus on February 27, 2017.
Gugudan members continued with the release of their first album Act. 3 Chococo Factory on 8 November 2017. Four months later, they released their second album titled Act. 4 Cait on February 1, 2018. Gugudan debuted in Japan on September 19, 2018, with Stand By. On October 25, 2018, Maknae Hyeyeon, one of Gugudan’s members, quit the group to focus on her wellbeing and education.
Who Are The Current Gugudan Members?
At the moment, there are currently eight Gugudan members. Here’s a little bit on each of them.
Born on the 1st of January, 1993, Jung Mi-mi is a vocalist and visual in the female group Gugudan. Mimi represents the number 7 in the group. Before Jellyfish Entertainment, Mimi used to train under FNC Entertainment. She also appeared in the drama I Picked Up A Celebrity On The Street (2018).
Born on the 16th of August 16, 1995, Han Hae-bin is Gugudan’s main vocalist. She represents the number 6 among the Gugudan members. Haebin also acted in the musical Monte Cristo.
Haebin, who attended Daemyung Girls’ High School, has been the longest trainee, having trained since 2009. She also wants to be known as “Queen of OST” in the future.
Kim Se-Jeong is a South Korean singer and actress. Sejeong is one of the main vocalists and represents the number 3. Sejeong first rose to fame upon appearing, and coming 2nd, on the hit survival show, Produce 101, which qualified her to be a member of the project group IOI. She’s also the first of the Gugudan members to have a solo debut.
Soyee, born as Jang So-jin, is a vocalist in the group. She was born in Gwangju, South Korea. Among Gugudan members, she represents the number 2. Before debuting, Soyee used to be a trainee under Cube and Plan A Entertainment. On the 19th of October, 2017, Soyee went on hiatus so she could fully recover from a shoulder injury.
Liu Xie Ning, popularly known as Sally, is a Chinese singer based in South Korea. Sally is the lead rapper and lead dancer of the group. Among Gugudan members, she represents the number 8. She also speaks Chinese and Korean and was a former CF model in China.
Born as Shin Bo-ra, Hana is the leader, lead dancer, vocalist, rapper, and visual of the female group Gugudan. She represents the number 1 in the group. She can speak both English and Japanese. Hana has 2 younger siblings and was born on the 30th of April, 1993.
Kim Na-young is the lead vocalist, rapper, and visual of the group. She represents the number 4 in the group. Nayoung was first known for appearing and competing in the hit survival show Produce 101 where she ranked 14th. She was a trainee for over 2 years; she trained in Born Star Training Academy and Dream Vocal.
Kang Mi-na is the main rapper, main dancer, and vocalist of the group. Among Gugudan members, she represents the number 9. Mina was first known from appearing and competing in the hit survival show Produce 101 which qualified her to become a member of the project group IOI. Mina has appeared in the Korean dramas 20th Century Boy and Girl (2017), Mama Fairy And The Woodcutter (2018), Hotel Del Luna (2019).
Why Did Hyeyeon Leave the Group?
On the 17th of May, 2018, the group’s management revealed that Hyeyeon would no longer be attending anything on her schedule excluding school due to health issues. For her to recover, it was decided that she needed to focus on taking a break and focusing on treatment.
The musician, who enjoys baking, speaks a bit of English and lived in the Philippines for a year. She is fondly referred to as a dancing machine by fellow Gudugan members.
