Volkman was born to parents, James Volkman and Rogene Manas in Eugene, Oregon, the United States, on March 4th, 1980. Upon completion of her basic education at South Eugene High School, she started her music career pursuit.
Following her solo performance at a music event in 2005, she was approached by Michael Peña, with whom she formed Nico Vega in 2007 along with drummer, Dan Epand. While still a member of Nico Vega, Aja Volkman began developing materials for her solo album in the year 2015. Although Reynolds initially did not intend to make music a profession, his passion for the art caused him to create the Imagine Dragons rock band in 2008. Still a member of Imagine Dragons and signed to Interscope records, Dan Reynolds created Night Street Records label, an imprint label associated with Interscope Records in 2016.
