Daniel Cormier was born on the 20th of March, 1979, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is the second of four kids by Joseph and Audrey Cormier. Daniel has a younger brother named Ferral, a younger sister called Felicia, and a big brother who bears the name Joseph. Daniel went to more than one high school as a kid. He lost his father when he was seven years old. His father was murdered by his second wife’s father-in-law on Thanksgiving Day. The loss left a black hole in Daniel’s heart that saw him struggle until he began getting into fights at school. He was advised by his school’s wrestling coach to channel his rage. He joined the wrestling team at his school and proceeded to win several state championships. By the time he finished high school, Cormier’s wrestling record was 101 victories against 9 losses.
Daniel Cormier also played American football in high school as a linebacker. He was very good at it as he was offered a scholarship to play at the acclaimed Louisiana State University (LSU), but he rejected this because he preferred wrestling. After he graduated from high school, he attended Colby Community College for two years where he won two junior college national championships back to back, before he transferred to Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
He was given the prestigious title of All-American in 2001 and graduated college with a 53-10 record. Furthermore, Daniel Cormier made it to five USA national wrestling squads and the 2004 US Olympics team, in which he won a 4th place finish.
