David Clarke is a former Sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin who rose to prominence on the international stage in 2016 when he strongly showed support for the then-Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump in the United States presidential campaign.
He is rather a frequent Fox News guest and was further invited to speak at the 2016 Republican National Convention despite being a registered Democrat.
David Clarke was born David Alexander Clarke Jr. on August 21, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the first son of his parents and has four other siblings. At an early age, Clarke showed athletic abilities as he played varsity basketball for Marquette University High School. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee where he took a few classes before dropping out to become a beer truck driver.
By the time he turned 22, in 1978, David Clarke took a law enforcement job, joining the Milwaukee Police Department where he served as a patrol officer. He worked in that position for eleven years before getting promoted to homicide detective and then later in 1993, lieutenant of detectives. In 1999, Clarke made captain as he went back to school, enrolling at the School of Adult and Continuing Education at Concordia University Wisconsin where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management of Criminal Justice.
In March 2002, following the abrupt resignation of the former Milwaukee County Sheriff, Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum appointed Clarke to replace him. He was later elected to a full term in the same year and was subsequently reelected in 2006, 2010, and 2014. While serving as Sheriff, Clarke enrolled at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and by 2013, received a master’s degree in security studies.
A few years later in 2017, however, CNN reported that the controversial and polarizing law enforcement official had plagiarized portions of his thesis. The report led to an investigation which found Clarke to have indeed committed plagiarism. The graduate school’s dean of students, Commander Paul Rasmussen, then instructed Clarke to submit a revised thesis in order for his degree not to be revoked. By March 2018, Sheriff David Clarke submitted a revised thesis that this time satisfied all requirements.
The Sheriff was further in the news for his political views which are aligned to the right and deemed to be against his race. The African-American law enforcer caused an uproar when he said people of his ethnicity are lazy, morally bankrupt, and sell drugs because they choose to not get an education. He has further attacked the Black Lives Matter movement which campaigns against the violence and abuse perpetrated against black people by the police. He described the organization as a hate group and even went as far as alleging that the movement is conspiring with ISIS to destroy America.
David Clarke is also an outspoken gun control critic, publicly advocating for people to arm themselves because the government and the police could no longer provide adequate protection.

David Clarke was born to Jeri and David Clarke Snr. Not much is known about his mother however, his father was in the military, a paratrooper with the 2nd Ranger Infantry Company who fought during the Korea War to be exact. After the war, Clarke Snr. returned to Milwaukee to work at the post office during which he and his wife settled down together.
Clarke Jnr. is married to former court clerk Julie Clarke who later became a real estate agent/realtor. The couple got married in 1996 after meeting each other in the courthouse where she was working and Clarke was appearing on a double-homicide trial as the lead detective on the case. They have since their wedding lived together on the northwest side of Milwaukee where they built a home.
Despite not having any children, and being of different races, the couple has always looked to be very happy, standing by each other’s side as Julie Clarke usually appears beside her husband at public events. It was however reported early in 2018 that the former Sheriff has filed for divorce from his wife. The exact reason for the end of their marriage is not known and as of the time of writing, divorce proceedings have not been completed.
