Day6 is a five-member South Korean pop-rock boy group created by South Korean multinational entertainment and record label conglomerate, JYP Entertainment Corporation in 2014. The group is made up of Sungjin, Jae, Dowoon, Wonpil, and Young K. Having been a six-member band before one of them, Junhyeok terminated his contract in February 2016 because of some personal reasons. Their musical style has evolved from pop-rock to include a wide range of genres like K-Pop, Alternative rock, and Neon pop.
So far, they have released three studio albums namely; ‘Sunrise’ (2017), ‘Moonrise’ (2017), and ‘Unlock’ (2018) with many hit singles as they won the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards with hit single, ‘Shoot Me’ and also gained several nominations. Day6 Members Updated – Who is Their Leader?
Formed by the owner of JYP Entertainment, J. Y. Park, the quintet’s lineup includes Sungjin, Jae, Dowoon, Wonpil, and Young K, with Sungjin as the leader of the band. Here is his profile, along with the profile of other members of the pop-rock band.
Sungjin is the professional name of Park Sung-jin who is the leader, lead singer, and Rhythm guitarist of the famous K-Pop boy group, Day6. He was born on 16th January 1993 in Busan, South Korea as the second child of his parents. The talented singer was part of the group’s original formation, 5LIVE that debuted in 2014 with five members (boys) which later evolved to Day6 because of too much comparison with Maroon 5. He used to play Djembe and Cajón when they were answering 5LIVE but switched to guitar after they changed their name to Day6.
Sungjin featured in one episode of the season two of the South Korean Variety-music TV program, Hidden Singer and contended against the renowned singer-songwriter, record producer, record executive, and reality TV show judge, JYP to know if he sounds like JYP. After excelling in two rounds, he was eliminated in the third round after the audience voted that he didn’t sound like JYP.
Jae is a Korean American singer, rapper, songwriter, and composer popularly known as the vocalist and electric guitarist of the boy band, Day6. He was born as Park Jae-hyung on 15th September 1992 in Buenos Aires, Argentina but his family relocated to California when he was five years old. Before he joined Day6, he was already a celebrity in South Korea after he finished in the sixth position in the first season of the South Korean reality TV singing competition series, K-Pop Star. He is an alumnus of Cerritos High School and studied Political Science at California State University, Long Beach. He was also part of their initial five-member band, 5LIVE.
Dowoon is the drummer and the maknae (youngest member) of the pop-rock boy group, Day6. He was part of a first audition for 5LIVE band which he passed but later withdrew due to personal reasons. However, he joined Day6 after auditioning again. Born as Yoon Do-woon on 25th August 1995 in Busan, South Korea as the second child and only son of his parents, Dowoon is an alumnus of Changwon Sangnam middle school. He obtained his basic education at Peniel High School of the Arts and furthered his education at the Department of Applied Music, Busan Arts College.
Wonpil is the stage name of the Day6 songster, synthesizer and keyboardist whose real name is Kim Won-pil. He was born in Incheon, South Korea on 28th April 1994 and have always wanted to be a member of JYP Entertainment since his early childhood. He is a pioneer member of the original formation, 5LIVE and a great contributor in the band’s songwriting. For his academics, Wonpil attended Jinsan Middle School and Incheon Science High School before enrolling into Daekyeung University.
5. Young K
Young K is the professional name of the South Korean musician, singer, songwriter, and rapper who was born as Kang Young-hyun. He is the songster, rapper, and bassist of the rock band, Day6, having been part of the pioneer members of the original formation, 5LIVE. He was born on 19th December 1993 in Ilsan, South Korea but later relocated to Toronto, Canada for his middle and high school education at York Mills Collegiate Institute.
Why Did Junhyeok Leave?
Junhyeok was a pioneer member of the original formation of JYP Entertainment rock band, 5LIVE before they changed their name to Day6. He served as their songster and keyboardist. However, his contract was terminated on 27th February 2016 due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, rumors making rounds towards the ending of 2015 has it that Junhyeok was allegedly having a romantic relationship with one of their fans with the videos and photos of his flirtation on social media which was against their contract agreement which stated that the new JYP stars should stay at least three years before entering into a relationship.
However, the said Day6 fan uploaded pictures of their romantic escapades on her social media handles as well as some sensitive information about the group’s upcoming fixtures and events. In 2018, he debuted as a soloist with the release of his first album along with two songs titled, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Stay’ on 22nd February 2018 and later released his debut Japanese mini-album titled, ‘White’ with many songs on it.
