Diana Ross is a household name in music circles. She has inspired most of the great female acts today and has given the world timeless music both as an individual artist and when she was part of the pop/soul trio known as the Supremes. Her beautiful voice aside, there is a lot of great stuff to learn about the life of this great legend and we will be looking at her life in great detail below.

Diana Ross Bio – Age

Diana Ross, full name Diane Ernestine Earle Ross, was born in Detroit, Michigan on the 26th of March, 1944. She was one of those who delved into music early; Ross started singing with friends while she was only a teenager and those little beginnings led to the formation of the Supremes the great 1960s trio that sang their way into the hearts of music lovers. Before the Supremes, however, were the Primettes which consisted of Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Barbara Martin. It was only after Barbara Martin dropped out of the group that the trio would then take up the name the Supremes and begin their chart domination.

While Diana Ross was with the Supremes, we got such timeless hits as “Come See About Me” and “You Can’t Hurry Love”. The group later came to be named Diana Ross and the Supremes. The Supremes were signed to Motown Records by Berry Gordy Jr. who was the label founder and a famed producer. Their first number one hit was “Where Did Our Love Go?” which was released in 1964. The Supremes were the first group in U.S history to have five songs in a row that reached number one.

Diana Ross reached for a solo career in 1969. It was not a bad decision or even a dangerous one as Diana Ross proved to be a hitmaker indeed. By the year 1970, she had a Top 20 hit in “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” and a number one hit in “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

A career in the movies would go to prove Diana Ross’ versatility even further. In 1972, she starred in the film “Lady Sings the Blues” which was a Billie Holiday biopic and which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She has also starred in the 1975 film “Mahogany” and the 1978 film “The Wiz”. In 1980 she returned to the music scene stronger releasing a self-titled album produced by Nile Rodgers. Diana topped the charts with Lionel Richie in 1981 with a duet called “Endless Love”.

With such an impressive career under her belt, Diana Ross was presented in 2007 with the Black Entertainment Television’s Lifetime Achievement Award and was also honored by the Kennedy Center for her contributions to the arts. Micheal Jackson also named Diana Ross as an alternate guardian for his children as was revealed when he died in 2009. The action caused Diana Ross to jump back into the limelight. In 2012, she got her first ever Grammy after being nominated twelve times. It was a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement and in 2016 she was again honored when Barack Obama presented her with the highest civilian honor in America; the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Her Net Worth

With such a great career filled with awards and accolades, it is not surprising that Diana Ross has an estimated net worth of $250 million. Her wealth no doubt comes from the royalties of her music and the few films she has been in. She certainly also gave her children some keys to success as they are all successful in their own fields, especially, her actor and comedian daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.

Diana Ross’ Husband and Children

Diana Ross has been married and divorced twice. Before her first marriage, however, she had a long relationship with Motown CEO Berry Gordy. The two had a child together in August 1971 who was named Rhonda Suzanne. After her relationship with Gordy ended, she began dating and then married Robert Ellis Silberstein. Their marriage resulted in two daughters; Tracee Joy (born in 1972) and Chudney Lane (born in 1975. The two got divorced in 1977.

In 1986, Diana Ross got married to Norwegian tycoon Arne Næss Jr. and they had two sons together. Her first son Ross Arne was born in 1987 and her second Evan Olav was born in 1988. Their marriage broke up in 2000 when the press caught wind of a story that Naess had fathered a child in Norway with another woman. Diana Ross has been known to refer to Næss as the love of her life. Unfortunately, he died in 2004 in a mountain climbing accident.

Pregnancy Speculation

Diana Ross has five children so she has obviously been pregnant many times but in 2015 when the then 71-year-old legend was sighted walking around California in black leggings and a tank top, several people on Twitter actually started speculating about the possibility of a pregnancy. The speculation was based on the fact that she looked a little big in the middle. The episode calls to mind the sometimes unnecessary pressure placed on celebrities to stay in perfect shape.
