Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Enigmatic Mass Murderers Dzokhar

The first on this list of enigmatic mass murderers is Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who was found guilty of carrying out the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings along with his senior brother Tamerlan who was killed in a shootout with the police 3 days later. Tsarnaev and his brother planted bombs close to the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013, the bombs went off on April 15, killing 3 and wounding over 260 people.

Tsarnaev was described as a popular kid by friends who were shocked when they heard the news. A second-year medical student training to be a brain surgeon, an all-star wrestler, the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship for promising school children, Tsarnaev’s serial killer status is still almost unbelievable. Currently facing a death sentence, there are quite a number of people who can’t wait to see the 22 year old gone from this world.

James Holmes

James Holmes

James Eagan Holmes on July 20, 2012, tossed tear gas into Theater 9 of the Century 16 megaplex in Aurora during the first minutes of the midnight show “The Dark Knight Rises”. He then opened fire with a rifle and a pistol, he was wearing a helmet, gas mask and ballistic gear at the time and only walked out of the theater after his gun jammed, where he then surrendered.

He had however managed by this time to secure a place on this list of enigmatic mass murderers by killing 12 people and wounding 70 more. Although he had a history of mental illness which played a huge part in his insanity defense, James Holmes managed to rise to the level of taking graduate courses in neuroscience at the University of Denver’s campus, before he walked out on schooling altogether and gave in to his darker side. He currently has 12 life sentences, plus 3,318 years.

Seifeddine Rezgui

Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire on a beach in Sousse, then chased people into the Imperial Marhaba Hotel where he proceeded to spray them with bullets and lob homemade explosives at them. He slaughtered 38 innocent holiday makers in all on that day (June 26th, 2015). Although the attack was chalked up to Islamic terrorism, spearheaded by ISIS, Rezgui did not fit the profile.

He had a girlfriend, was a break dancing enthusiast, was described by a number of people as funny and his mother Radhia Manai claimed that he was brainwashed as he normally would not have killed even a mouse. Rezgui, a 23 year old engineering student had been inebriated with alcohol, as well as high on cocaine and was finally shot down and killed by security forces.

Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik

Deserving of a place on this list of enigmatic mass murderers are these husband and wife who got together to execute one of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States. Syed Farrok who was a U.S citizen and his wife Tashfeen Malik, who’d become a permanent resident, massacred 14 people at a holiday party. They had left their baby with grandma and gone on to commit the unthinkable. In a crime whose motive is still unclear, the two were later killed in a shootout with the police. Although there were a few signs that the couple had been radicalized, most people attest to the fact that they were a normal couple who seemed happy with their lives and had everything going for them.
