Eric Church is one of the biggest acts in country music. He began his career as a child and has come a long way from when he was a 13-year old strumming a guitar and singing covers. The successes he has enjoyed as a singer-songwriter is a testament to the work he put into his craft.
The musician was born in Granite Falls, North Carolina, on the 3rd of May, 1977. Growing up, he spent a lot of time working with his father Ken Church at the furniture upholstery company, Clayton Marcus. This was what his life was all about until he discovered his passion for music.
He Made the Life-changing Decision to Become a Musician When He Was 13
When Church became a teenager, his attention started to shift to something else. He bought himself a guitar and began the process of writing songs. As he grew older, so did his skills grow, and by the time he was a senior at South Caldwell High School, he was already performing live.
Eric Church had a gig at one of the local bars in the area and would spend a lot of his time writing songs and performing at the bar. He would perform his own songs and covers of other songs.
The songs he mostly performed were the covers of Jimmy Buffet. These live performances spread from his local area to the point he started to perform statewide. This pivot happened when Eric started to attend Appalachian State University where he earned a degree in Marketing. At Appalachian, he was a member of a band called Mountain Boys.
Other members of the band were his brother, a roommate, and another guitarist. It was with this band that he started to tour North Carolina. All the work Eric Church was doing was akin to him laying the groundwork for a successful career in music that he hoped to have but was not certain about.
His Relocation to Nashville to Pursue His Career Was Almost Thwarted
When his time at university came to an end, Eric Church started to make plans to move to Nashville, a city notable for its large population and for being home to musicians and songwriters starting out in their careers.
But Church was engaged to a woman who was not as enthusiastic about his foray into music and had her father offer him a corporate job, which he turned down.
This angered his fiancee who later broke off the engagement. Determined and undeterred, Eric Church moved to Nashville, thanks to the financial support he got from his father. The support made it easier for him to focus on his career and fully throw himself into songwriting.
Eric Church Made Most of His $26 Million Fortune from Music
Church’s career skyrocketed in 2006 when he was signed by Capitol Nashville. When, How Bout You, his first official single was released, it peaked at number 14 on the Hot Country Songs. This was a clear indication that his career was set to be a successful one.
Church has been making music for more than 30 years and has been a professional musician for more than half of that duration. The success he has recorded and the sale of his music contributed immensely to his net worth estimated at $26 million.
A good measure of his wealth comes from nationwide tours which have always been a part of his career. The country music star has had over 10 tours; these tours are an extension of his early days as a musician when he would play at local bars all over North Carolina.
His Work in Furniture Upholstery is also a Significant Source of His Wealth
Eric Church’s source of wealth began with his music, but the musician has been able to leverage his platform and make more money for himself in other ways. ‘Highway to Home’, his furniture brand is a compilation of home furniture created by him. The collection has pieces for all functional spaces in any home.
As a child who worked in a furniture company with his father, it is only natural that he also makes money from a lifelong craft. There are some pieces in the Highway to Home collection that were inspired by the esoteric tastes of Eric. According to him, this collection is like music for the home. His furniture is available for purchase at Wayfair and Rooms to Go.
His sources of income also extend to the sales of clothes and puzzles on his website. In 2014, he partnered with Lucchese Boots to create his own boot line. He visited the Lucchese factory and designed ten boots all of which were designed with a dash of a part of his personality.
The Country Music Star is Married to a Music Publisher
- Name: Katherine Blasingame
- Date of Birth: Undetermined
Katherine Blasingame was a music publisher long before she met Eric Church. In an interview with Taste of Country, Church revealed that Katherine was only helping him connect with one of her writers when they started to get close.
The two got married in 2008 and during the ceremony, Church performed You Make it Look So Easy in honor of her and their relationship.
According to Church, the work his wife does in music had given her proper experience to know when a song is great or has the potential to be great: of course, she has been very useful to his career.
The Couple Now Has Two Children
In 2011, their first son named Boon McCoy was born and in 2015, their second child (another son), Tennessee Hawkins, joined the family.
Church spends most of his time on tour but he has had nothing to worry about his home as his wife is very much in charge. Several times, he has praised her for being his biggest supporter and for finding a way to make things work even when they are apart.
