Kitesurfing: Obama Unleashes His Fun Side In Great Company[Photos]

While Trump battles with countless looming lawsuits and Americans feeling edgy, Ex-president Obama took time to unleash his fun side, learning how to kitesurf in the company of Richard Branson.

After 8 years as the President of the United States, Barack Obama left on a vacation with his family. First they flew to California. Later they honored Billionaire Richard Branson’s invitation to the Moskito Island.

There, the prominent figures relaxed and had what obviously seemed like a swell time.

Like a baby learning how to walk, Former President Obama learned how to Kitesurf after 8 years of being the President.

According to the Virgin billionaire, Obama had halted all fun activities he loved for all the time he was the President.

“One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii.”

“When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: “This will be the last time you surf for eight years.” For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.”

Like they say, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Leadership has its perks but when it involves the rulership of one of the most powerful nations in the world, the you can best be sure that the role is incredibly overwhelming.


To help him catch up on old times, Branson’s team would help teach the ex-president how to kitesurf as Branson also perfects on surfing with the foil board.

“So we decided to set up a friendly challenge: could Barack learn to kitesurf before I learned to foilboard? We agreed to have a final day battle to see who could stay up the longest. “

While they practiced the game, the billionaire noted in his blog that they fell many times but were determined to get it right. They wanted to be in good shape in time for their ultimate challenge.


On the day of the challenge, the billionaire described his greatest shock to be how the past president really catches on quickly… quicker than he thought actually.

“Barack and I both fell many times, but we kept trying again and again and made progress over the days. We were neck and neck until the last run on the last day, when I got up on the foilboard and screamed along for over 50 metres, three feet above the water.”

“I was feeling very pleased with myself, only to look over and see Barack go 100 metres on his kiteboard! I had to doff my cap to him and celebrate his victory.”
