Fanxy Child has been variously described as ‘rule breakers’ and ‘rebels’, and the reason is not farfetched. The hip-hop collective comprises of six peers who refuse to confine their music to the bubbly pop style that dominates the k-pop scene. They have remained true to their vision and style, and refuse to be silenced.
The k-pop industry is largely dominated by big entertainment companies that recruit thousands of young talents and subject them to rigorous idol training. Only a few eventually succeed while the rest are ditched. The few who succeed are then tied to slavish contracts and have no choice but to churn out commercially-profitable music.
This is however not the case with Fanxy Child. The hip-hop and R&B collective was formed by popular rapper and Block B leader, Zico, in 2016. The young man rounded up some of his peers who shared his taste in music and had succeeded on an individual basis to form the collective. Since its formation, Fanxy Child has dropped several hit singles. They have also held sold-out concerts in various cities around the world.
