Fun Facts About Yul Edochie’s Marriage of Many Years to May and The Children They Share

Yul Edochie is the youngest child of veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie. Yul followed in his father’s footsteps to make strides in the Nigerian film industry. The 42 year old is happily married to his wife May Edochie and their union is blessed with 4 children. They have been married since 2004. Yul got married at the age of 22, roughly a year before he began his acting career in Nollywood. He got his big break later in 2007 after starring in the movie Wind of Glory. Before the big break, he had started his career back in 2005 with his first film titled The Exquires.

In addition to acting, Yul is also a director. In more recent times, he has ventured into politics, emerging as the gubernatorial candidate for Anambra State under the platform of the Democratic People’s Congress. He emerged as the flag bearer of the party but eventually lost the election. Yul has since announced his intention to run for President of Nigeria in 2023. He was happy to announce that his father is in support of his ambition despite the fact that he does not like politics.

A Look At The Life Of May Edochie and What She Does For A Living

May Edochie is the wife of Yul Edochie. She was formerly known as May Aligwe and is a native of Anambra State. She is a graduate of computer engineering from the University of Port Harcourt. Not much else is known about her family or background.

Contrary to public opinion, May is not an actress like her husband. She is the Chief Executive Officer of DKK investments, a company she owns and runs by herself.

The Couple Met While In The University and Have Been Married For Close To Two Decades

Sources have it that Yul and May met way back in 1998 while they were at the University of Port Harcourt. He graduated from the institution in 2003. They eventually got married in October 2004 after reportedly dating for six years.

During one interview, Yul explained that he got married at quite an early age because he did not want to be distracted once he ventured fully into his career. Yul had always known what his career path would be like so when he met his wife at the University, he decided to marry her even before he became popular.

Reacting to a post on Twitter where a young man advised men to only get married when they have a sustainable job, the actor said “I had no sustainable job when I got married. She said she’ll manage. She never frustrated me for one day. It’s been 16 years of marriage now. We are happy. Different things work for different people.” Their union has stood the test of time despite all the pitfalls they encounter from time to time.

Yul and The Scandals That Has Trailed Him Over The Years

Yul and May Edochie has been married for almost 17 years now and just like every marriage, they have experienced the usual hiccups that every regular marriage goes through. Yul once talked about his experience with some female fans and how his wife often handles the situation with maturity and poise. There was one time some female fans came up to him and took pictures with him and even kissed him on the cheek while his wife just stood by, waiting patiently before they could continue on their way.

In more recent times, there have been allegations against Yul concerning his sexuality and also his fidelity to his wife. He is said to have had a baby with a fellow Nollywood actress, Judy Austin, and some sources alleged that the two have been dating for a while now before she finally got pregnant for Yul. Others have gone as far as claiming that the relationship has been a secret affair until they were finally exposed when the baby was born. Although none of them has come out to debunk or even accept the allegations, both fans and foes took to their social media handles to condemn them. Others saw it as an opportunity to gloat or just be plainly sarcastic towards the actor.

In an attempt to address the situation about his affair and baby with Judy, Yul made a post on social media where he mentioned his many achievements and expressed disappointment towards his fans for not commending him for his achievements but rather jumping in to only discuss his private life which he says is really not their business. He also reiterated that they cannot bring him down because God has already lifted him up.

On another note, Yul has had a fair share of challenges with the LGBTQ community. He claims he has been stalked by a fan who turned out to be gay. The fan, whose name Yul revealed as Steven Ugochukwu Onyebuchi, is a Canada-based Nigerian who began making advances at Yul but got turned down on several occasions. According to Yul, Steven eventually suggested that they just be friends which Yul reluctantly agreed to. Along the line, Mr Steven offered to help relocate Yul’s family to Canada and after he got the necessary documents for the immigration process, he resumed making advances at Yul once again. This time, he came on so strong that he began to blackmail him with photo-shopped nude pictures, he also went as far as posting Yul’s phone number on gay sites. Yul confirmed that even after changing his phone number a couple of times, Steven still found a way to get his new contacts through the connections he has with the Nollywood industry. Yul has since made up his mind to hunt him down and send him to jail for all the trouble he has caused him.

In a similar situation, Yul once publicly made anti-gay comments on his social media handle where he advised his fans to be wary of gay people so as to avoid the wrath of God. This did not sit well with some of his fans too as they also took to the comments section of the post to register their displeasure for such insensitive remarks towards the LGBTQ community.

Yul and May Edochie Have 4 Beautiful Children Together

Yul and May Edochie’s marriage has produced one daughter and three sons. Their daughter, Danielle, was born in 2015 and is the oldest. The other three boys are Kambi, Karl and Victory. Although still quite young, the children do not feature so much on social media, considering the fact that Yul keeps his family away from the media as much as possible.

Danielle Yul-Edochie

As mentioned above, Danielle is the oldest of the actor’s children and was born in 2005. Despite the privacy, she has once been in the spotlight as she featured alongside her father when he got an endorsement deal with an electronics brand known as “Ninos Global Technology”. The brand is known for its line of electronics such as tablets and wristwatches and gives parents access to their children’s location. Danielle also featured in an advert when she was just twelve years old. The actor recently celebrated his daughter for doing well in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examinations (JAMB), promising to get her anything she wants if she comes out in flying colors in her West African Examination Council Examinations (WAEC).

Dani, who turned sixteen in April 2021, has her own IG account @danielleyuledochie which we believe is still managed by her parents.

Kambi Yul-Edochie

Kambi is the actor’s first son and second child. He features in most of the family pictures shared online by his parents but not so much is known about him, including his date of birth, where he was born, and what class he is in and all.
