Why Some Members Left the Group
Girls’ Generation which was unveiled by SM Entertainment as a nine-member girl band was reduced to an octet group in 2014 with the departure of Jessica. Jessica Jung is a vocalist, fashion designer, and actress who launched her own fashion line Blanc & Eclare in early 2014. Due to conflicts between the group’s schedule and her own business operations, she was dismissed from the group in September 2014. Following the dismissal, she terminated her contract with the agency.
Later in October 2017, Sooyoung, Tiffany and Seohyun refrained from renewing their contracts with SM Entertainment in order to pursue their solo music careers. Despite leaving SM to sign with Transparent Arts, Tiffany is still reported to be a Girls’ Generation member. Similarly, Seohyun who joined Namoo Actors in 2019 and Sooyoung who signed with Saran Entertainment in 2019 are reportedly Girls’ Generation members.
