Gucci Mane is an American rapper who helped in pioneering the hip hop subgenre of trap music, alongside fellow rappers like T.I. and Young Jeezy. So far, he has released 12 studio albums and over 70 mixtapes; and in 2007, he founded his own label, 1017 Records, which he currently oversees.
The Atlanta native’s extensive career has seen him work with music artists such as Selena Gomez, Mariah Carey, Marilyn Manson, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown. Although his timeline has been fraught with crime allegations and intermittent jail terms, Gucci Mane’s consistency in the musical space has made him an authority. He’s been named an “avatar of East Atlanta,” and “the most influential underground rapper of the past decade.”
Gucci Mane was born Radric Delantic Davis on February 12, 1980 in Birmingham, Alabama. His father, Ralph Everett Dudley, is a former U.S serviceman and power plant worker while his mother, Vicky Jean Davis, is a social worker and teacher.
Although Gucci was homeschooled by his mother who taught him how to read, his first shot at formal education was at Jonesboro Elementary, where he attended kindergarten. He later moved to Cedar Grove Elementary School when his mother relocated to East Atlanta.
At around the age of six, his elder half-brother, Victor had introduced him to the sale of cannabis. Surprisingly, this side-trade didn’t impede the young boy’s academic performance at Ronald E. McNair High School, where he scored good grades. He graduated in 1998, and a few months later, secured a HOPE scholarship to Georgia Perimeter College for a computer programming course.
Sadly though, Gucci Mane at this time began to regularly miss classes and was soon kicked out of the programme in 2001 after he was caught with crack cocaine by an undercover police officer. He went on to spend 90 days in jail and signaled his long battle with law enforcement and corrections officers as over the years, he has been in and out of prison for several reasons.
Growing up, Gucci Mane had a knack for writing poetry. As a teen, he began writing lyrics and rapping and by the time he turned 25, he released his independent debut album Trap House, featuring the successful single Icy with Young Jeezy. A year later, he dropped his next album Hard to Kill which earned him a spot as one of the best in the business.
Gucci’s work has been nominated and selected for several notable awards. In 2017, his work with Rae Sremmurd was nominated for the BET’s Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award and his song with Chris Brown and Usher, Party was nominated for Best Collaboration. In the same year, the song Down won the MTV Music Video Award for Best Pop Video. The work was also nominated for Best Choreography and Song of the Summer.
Family – Wife, Kids, Girlfriend
In 2017, Gucci Mane walked down the aisle with his longtime sweetheart, Keyshia Ka’oir. The couple first met back in 2010. Fast-forward six years, Mane proposed to Keyshia and on October 19, 2017, they exchanged vows in the presence of close friends and relatives.
Before meeting Keyshia Ka’oir, Mane has been romantically linked with other women, including Masika Kalysha, Sheneka Adams, and Kat Stacks. He disclosed in his 2017 autobiography that he has a son from a previous relationship. But he’s probably not alone in this matter as there are strong rumors that Ka’oir has three children from a previous relationship in Jamaica. It is said that the model left the kids to pursue a modeling career in the US. A rumor she strongly denies.
Gucci Mane bares the surname of his mother because his father was not present to sign his birth certificate. At the time of his birth, it is reported that his father had fled to Detroit, Michigan. As a cocaine seller, he was fleeing from the police over drug-related charges.
Radric ended up being raised by his mother and paternal grandmother. His grandmother helped raise him while his mom, who was a social worker and teacher, was studying for her degree.
Gucci Mane Net Worth
As of early 2019, the hip hop star has an estimated net worth of about $20 million. Much of that has come from his extensive career as a rapper, through album sales and touring. It is not clear where Mane has put all that money in terms of investment, however, it is certain that he sure has a number of vehicles keeping the income steady.
