Halsey belongs to the class of musicians who relied on the power of the internet to kick-start their careers. The American singer-songwriter first gained fame in 2014, thanks to a viral single that she dropped on SoundCloud. Since then, she has released multiple-platinum albums and won several awards. She has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including the likes of Justin Bieber and Khalid.
Halsey is now a legit music star but this status has not come without controversy. The singer has faced accusations of cultural appropriation due to some hairstyles she wore. She has also received pushback from the LGBTQ community after coming out as one of them. For these naysayers, her dating history is a pointer to the fact that she is not a member of their community but someone who at best takes an occasional walk on the wild side of life.
Coming out as Bisexual and the Controversies Surrounding Her Claims
Halsey is openly bisexual and this means that she can date both men and women. In an interview which the New Jersey native granted to Paper Magazine in June 2017, she revealed that she had been out as bi since her high school days and this fetched her unsavory names from some of her classmates. She however refused to be untrue to herself and has stuck to her identity to date.
To prove that she is really sure about her orientation, the singer used her 2017 single, Bad at Love, to detail why some of her past relationships, featuring both men and women, failed. Also in 2017, she collaborated with fellow openly-bisexual singer, Lauren Jauregui of Fifth Harmony, to pen a powerful love song for the LGBT community titled Strangers.
Songs like this have fetched Halsey praise from ordinary folks who thank her for ably representing young bisexual women in Hollywood. It has however fetched her a ton of biphobia from people who think she should just make up her mind and pick where she belongs. Some people have even gone ahead to denounce her as a member of the LGBT community. This is hinged on the fact that the singer’s relationships since coming to the limelight have been comprised of just men.
people bring anti-LGBT religious propaganda to my concerts a lot and it’s like, I feel like I’ve done enough good in the world that God’s gonna forgive me for eating some pussy.

The Singer Has Mostly Dated Men
Halsey’s first noted public relationship was with English musician and 1975 frontman, Matt Healy. She and Healy met during one of his band’s concerts in 2015 and dated for a few months. They, unfortunately, split up that same year and the New Jersey native moved on with Norwegian musician and record producer, Lido. The romance between her and Lido lasted up until 2016. They then broke up and the singer reportedly went on to date American artist, Jared Leto. This romance spanned April and May 2016 but was never confirmed.
The next confirmed romance that Halsey embarked upon was with American rapper, Machine Gun Kelly. She and Kelly met while featuring in the 2017 TV series, Roadies, and dated for a few months. They subsequently broke up and the breakup had to do with her next boyfriend, G-Eazy. The singer and G-Eazy were first linked together after performing their collabo, Him & I, in August 2017. They made things Instagram official in September 2017 and from then on, embarked on a very public and complicated romance that ended in July 2018.
Thus far, Halsey has only been in relationships with men. The only time that she was linked with a woman was when she and Australian actress, Ruby Rose, were spotted on a date in late 2015. They also exchanged some series of flirty tweets but that was that.
It is this reality that has made some people denounce Halsey as a member of the LGBTQ community. The fact however remains that she does not need to date women in order to prove to anyone that she is bi. We just have to take her words.
Halsey’s Relationship with American Horror Story Star, Evan Peters
Halsey’s last known relationship was with the American actor, Evan Peters. Peters is most famous for his portrayal of the mutant hero, Quicksilver, in the X-Men Franchise. He is also a household name on the anthology series, American Horror Story, where he has portrayed a variety of sociopaths.
Halsey and Peters were first linked together back in September 2019 when they were spotted enjoying a date at the Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles. They later made things official by walking the red carpet together at the American Horror Story 100th episode celebration in October 2019. For the occasion, they both wore matching Sonny and Cher Halloween outfits.
The couple would remain together for the next five months during which they rang in the New Year together in Australia. They also celebrated 2020 Valentine’s Day in Switzerland. The fairy tale has now come to an end as they called it quits in March 2020. The singer has removed most of their pictures from her Instagram and has even gone ahead to like a tweet that mentioned their breakup.
Rising from Internet Sensation to Billboard Chart Topper
Halsey first fell in love with music as a child and subsequently mastered several instruments at an early age. Upon graduating from high school, she initially pursued a college degree but had to drop out when she couldn’t pay her fees. The young lady thereafter started writing and posting songs online and soon gained a good following for her music.
All of Halsey’s hard work finally paid off in 2014 when she dropped the single, Ghost, on SoundCloud. The song achieved instantaneous viral success and fetched her a record deal with Astralwerks. She then dropped her debut album, Badlands, in August 2015. The album featured singles such as Ghost, New Americana, Colors and Castle; and reached number two on Billboard Top 200. It would also go on to sell more than a million copies and was certified platinum.
Halsey Was the First Female Act to Open Atop the US Billboard 200 Chart in 2017
Following her impressive debut album, the New Jersey native has not rested on her oars. She has dropped two more albums: Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (which also topped the Billboard Top 200 chart) and Manic (which reached 2nd at the Billboard Top 200 chart), both of which have been certified platinum. She has also collaborated with other renowned artists.
One of her biggest collabos was the 2016 monster hit Closer; a collaboration with The Chainsmokers. The song topped the charts in at least 13 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. It also got over 2 billion views on YouTube and fetched all of them about four Billboard Awards.
On an individual basis, Halsey has collected some awards including outstanding music artists at the 2018 GLAAD Media Awards, rising star award at the 2017 Global Awards, and rising star at the 2016 Billboard Women in Music award.
