Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood film producer, is the co-founder of the entertainment company, Miramax Films, which is responsible for the production of many hit independent films such as the 1989 drama film, Sex, Lies, and Videotape; the 1992 thriller film, The Crying Game; Pulp Fiction and Heavenly Creatures, both in 1994; Flirting with Disaster (1996), and Shakespeare in Love (1998).
For the production of Shakespeare in Love, Harvey Weinstein won an Academy Award for Best Picture, a BAFTA Award for Best Film, a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, a Satellite Award for Best Film – Musical or Comedy, in addition to being nominated for Producers Guild of America Award for Best Theatrical Motion Picture. He also won seven Tony Awards for producing different plays and musicals, including Billy Elliot the Musical, and August: Osage County.
After Miramax was sold to The Walt Disney Company, Harvey Weinstein and his brother established The Weinstein Company in New York City, in 2005. He remained the co-chairman of the company until October 2017 when he was dismissed following several allegations of sexual harassment, assault or rape by over 100 women.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts also suspended him while the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences expelled him and popular political figures whom he had supported denounced him. Out of shame, he resigned from the Directors Guild of America.
Back home, Harvey’s wife, Georgina Chapman, who never suspected that he was unfaithful, was overwhelmed with different emotions following the news of his sexcapades, ranging from rage to confusion to disbelief and humiliation. Unable to stomach the huge betrayal, she decided to quit the marriage.
The former producer was arrested in New York on May 25, 2018, charged with rape and other offenses, and released after a bail bond of a million dollars was paid on his behalf.

His father was a diamond cutter and he was raised alongside his younger brother, Robert, in a housing cooperative known as Electchester in New York City.

Their first child, Remy (formerly named Lily), was born sometime in 1995 while the second, Emma, came in 1998 and the third, named Ruth, arrived in 2002.
He remarried in 2007 to Georgina Chapman, an English fashion designer, and actress. In 2010, they welcomed a daughter, India Pearl and a son, Dashiell in 2013. As a result of Weinstein’s sexual harassment accusations, Georgina announced on October 10, 2017, that she was leaving him.
