Hayley Kiyoko started out her career as a child actress and model for companies like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, GM Onstar, and Slim Jim. She is an American gay pop singer, who is currently breaking through the pop culture barriers on gay-related issues, which she boldly champions conveniently in her songs. She is also a songwriter, actress, dancer, and director gradually making her way in the entertainment industry.

She has made appearances in several Nickelodeon, Disney Channel television shows and film series like Scooby-Doo! (2009-10), Wizards of Waverly Place (2010), Lemonde Mouth (2011), Blue Lagoon: The Awakening (2012), Jem and the Holograms (2015), and XOXO (2016). Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft was born on April 3rd, 1991 in Los Angeles, California to a skater, choreographer mother, Sarah Kawahara and a voice actor/comedian father Jamie Alcroft. She has 2 siblings; a brother Thatcher and sister Alyssa. The actress is an American by birth but reportedly has a mixed ancestry and Scottish, Japanese, German, and Welsh ethnicity. Her grandparents were said to have emigrated to the United States.

She came onto the entertainment scene at the young age of 5 after she was spotted at the Culver City Ice Rink. She equally picked up drumming skills at the age of 6 and started her own drum chart releases which she sold at local music stores, till she was 11 and went on to appear in several Teens films.

While in high school, she participated in a social activity at the National Musical Choreography Competition in 2005, where her school emerged 3rd overall in the competition which she helped form and direct. Graduating in 2009, she got an admission offer from Clive Davis School of Recorded Music, New York University but chose to defer and ultimately decline the offer on the basis of her busy career schedule.

Sometime earlier in 2007, Hayley Kiyoko teamed up with other girls to form the now-defunct girls pop group called the ‘Stunner’. Members of the group included Allie Gonino, Kelsey Sanders Marisol Esparza, Tinashe and Hayley Kiyoko herself. The group released a few singles and were signed on a notable record label – Columbia, who got them the opening act on Justin Bieber’s world tour. They seemed to be doing well but eventually disbanded in 2011 and went their separate ways when the level of success they wanted was not forthcoming.

The end of the group, however, marked the beginning of Hayley Kiyoko’s sojourn as a solo artist. She launched out fully into her own solo music career releasing singles in her first extended play titled; ‘A Belle To Remember’ (2013), this was followed up with a 2nd EP ‘This Side of Paradise’ (2015), which had the single ‘Girls like Girls’. Her 3rd EP Citrine (2016) was borne out of her concussion experience and it was released under the record label of Empire and Atlantic on September 2016.

In a bid to expand her expertise, Harley Kiyoko took up the directorial role for her videos ‘Sleepover’, ‘Feelings’ and ‘Curious’ which were released in March, October and December 2017 ahead of her debut studio album Expectations, which dropped on March 30, 2018. The album was featured in the top 20 of the charts in the US, Canada, and Australia. With the successful launch of her first album, she went ahead and created a comic book from her song ‘Gravel to Tempo’ with the assistance of Naomi Franquiz and Maria Vazquez.

She was won 2 awards for contributions so far in as the Push Artist of the Year (2018) MTV Video Music Awards and her supporting role in ‘Hello My Name is Frank’ (2015) by Independent Filmmakers Showcase Film Festival.
