Hill Harper is an actor and also an author. He is most known for his character Sheldon Hawkes on CSI: NY but he has a lot of acting credit to his name and other parts of his life will certainly be of interest to his fans.
Hill Harper Bio
Hill Harper was born Francis Eugene Harper on May 17, 1966. His parents had their son in Iowa City and from the young age of 7, they were already allowing him to test his talent for acting. Hill Harper had a superb education, graduating from Bella Vista High School in 1984 before going to Brown University where he graduated magna cum laude in 1988. He went on to Harvard Law School and graduated with a cum laude in 1992. As if those qualifications were not enough, Harper also got a Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government also at Harvard.
He did not abandon his artistic flair through all this study. While at Harvard, he was a full-time member of Boston’s Black Folks Theater Company. After earning his Ivy League degrees, Hill Harper decided that what he wanted to do was acting. He moved to Los Angeles and began his acting career.
Hill Harper started gaining ground in 1993 when he landed a recurring role on the series Married… with Children by Fox. He also made a film debut with a short film named Confessions of a Dog. Spike Lee gave him his first feature film role with Get on the Bus (1996). He continued to display his versatility in a variety of roles and even starred as “Hard Rock” in the Off-Broadway play Toast in 2015 among a host of other theatre appearances. Starting in 2017, Hill Harper began acting the role of Dr Marcus Andrews on the ABC series The Good Doctor.
As mentioned earlier, Hill Haper is also an author. His books include: Letters to an Incarcerated Brother: Encouragement, Hope, and Healing for Inmates and Their Loved Ones (2013), The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place (2011), The Wiley Boys (2011), The Conversation: How (Black) Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships, (2010), Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny (2008) and Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny (2006).
When Hill Harper was a student at Harvard, he met and befriended Barack Obama and so it was not surprising to see Harper participate in the “Yes We Can” music video produced by will.i.am supporting the then-presidential candidate, Barack Obama. Hill Harper is part of the Obama for America National Finance Committee.
Harper has also won some awards in the course of his career including a three consecutive year win for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his performance on CSI: NY where he played Dr. Sheldon Hawkes. His writing has also been recognized. In 2014, his book Letters to an Incarcerated Brother: Encouragement, Hope, and Healing for Inmates and Their Loved Ones got nominated by the NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction.
Hil Harper has been named twice, in 2004 and 2014, as one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive.” In 2011, the actor was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but was thankfully given a clean bill of health after undergoing treatment.

Hill Harper’s parents probably had a huge hand in his successes as a student. His father is Harry Harper a psychologist married to Marilyn Harper, Hill Harper’s mother, who was one of the first black anesthesiologists to practice in the United States. Hill Harper actually adopted the name “Hill” as a recognition and tribute to his maternal and paternal ancestors and he sure looks to be doing them proud.
Hill Harper has amassed an impressive net worth of $15 million. The money is no doubt as a result of his earnings from his acting career and his high selling books. He also has the entrepreneurial effort of a skin care company that he launched just for African Americans.
Hill Harper Married, Wife – Is He Gay?
It is rumored frequently that Hill Harper is gay but the actor has given no impression to the truth or falsity of those claims. He has, however, been said to be dating musician Chloe Flower and the two have been seen together at various events and walking various red carpets since 2012. In 2013, they were spotted taking some time off together at St. Barts.
Hill Harper Children
Hill Harper has one child that he got in a way many may not consider customary. The actor received a call from a friend in November 2015 asking him if he would like to adopt a baby boy from a homeless woman. Harper was amenable and soon agreed which led to the adoption of Pierce Hill Harper, in May 2017.
