Grade Aggregate System for WASSCE and SSSC Holders

For the selection of qualified candidates, the University of Mines and Technology leverages the new WASSCE grading system which pegs the minimum entry requirement at an aggregate grade of 36. Applicants with SSCE can be admitted with 24 aggregate.

Six credits, including English and Mathematics, plus the elective subjects that are deemed relevant to the applicant’s choice of program or its equivalent are required. Intending enrollees who are yet to get WAEC results can go ahead and apply, but they should endeavor to add the results when they are finally released.

Admission Requirements for Mature Applicants

Candidates who fall under the category of mature applicants at the University of Mines and Technology Ghana should attain at least, 25 years of age and ought to have a GCE ‘O’ Level or SSSCE certificate showing credits in a total of five subjects. This should include English, Mathematics and one Science subject plus remarkable experience in any relevant area of study.

In addition to this, candidates must take and pass an entrance exam and/or an interview. Also, mature applicants must present birth certificates (at least, five years old from the date of issue).

Admission Requirements for Foreign Students Into UMaT

Fee-Paying Applicants: Admission Requirements

Applicants who have satisfied the University of Mines and Technology’s minimum entry requirement (aggregate 36) but find it difficult to meet the highly competitive departmental cut-off aggregate may also apply for admission into UMaT, provided they have sponsorship or financial backing to cover their full fees all through their years of study at the university. International Baccaleureate

  • Applicants for MSc / MPhil in Minerals Engineering must have finished their BSc degree from a recognized university and must be graduates of Applied Sciences/related engineering programs. First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), or its equivalent, will also be given considerations.
  • Also eligible to submit applications for the MSc/MPhil program in Minerals Engineering program are UMaT Diploma holders in Earth Science with at least five years of professional experience; this category of applicants must show proven ability in their respective disciplines.

MSc / MPhil in Mining Engineering

  • Applicants for MSc/MPhil in Petroleum Engineering programs in UMaT must be Bachelor of Science degree holders in Petroleum Engineering or any other related engineering courses. Their degrees must be obtained from a recognized university and the grade must be either First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), or its equivalent.
  • Any applicants who failed to satisfy the first requirements but have obtained related degrees in petroleum from any recognized university may also be considered eligible. However, eligibility will only become possible after careful consideration of the candidate’s background, including relevant documents.
  • Applicants who are not graduates of Petroleum Engineering will, upon their admission, be mandated to sit for and pass three non-scoring introductory modules; this will serve as a precondition for the major Petroleum Engineering modules.

MSc/MPhil in Mathematics

This comes with a Specialization in Computational Mathematics/Statistics/Financial Engineering.

  • Applicants must obtain their Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, and Physical Sciences; these BSc degrees must come from any recognized university with a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division).
  • In the absence of the first requirement above, the departmental board may adjudge suitable for interview, applicants with degrees in Mathematics or Statistics with Economics. Also, any engineering field cum other related physical sciences will be considered.

MSc/MPhil in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

  • Applicants for MSc/MPhil in Electrical and Electronic Engineering program at UMaT must have obtained their first degrees from any recognized university; these degrees can be in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering. Also, any other related Engineering disciplines will be considered. Approved grade levels are First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), or its equivalent.
  • Also adjudged eligible for admission are candidates who hold a UMaT Diploma in disciplines like Mine Electrical Engineering and are holders of senior positions/posts in any relevant industry. Also, they must have obtained at least five years of professional experience, showing proven capability in their respective disciplines.

MSc Engineering Management

  • Applicants for MSc Engineering Management programs at the University of Mines and Technology must have obtained their Bachelor of Science degrees in Business / Social and Physical Sciences/Technology and Engineering related courses. Approved grade levels are BSc First Class, Second Class (Upper/Lower Division), or its equivalent.

Ph.D. in Mathematics
