They managed the group throughout the ten months they were together and were also responsible for the termination of the one year contract given to the girls in 2016. Reason For Initial Disbandment

The group was initially formed by the eleven finalists from the reality survival show, Produce 101, who are from different agencies. For this reason, YMC Entertainment stated in January 2016 that the group will only last for a year. As a result, I.O.I members were only handed one-year contracts with the company which eventually ended in January 2017 leading to the disbandment of the group. Even though many fans of the K-Pop group suggested a contract extension, YMC maintained their stance as they announced on 17th January 2017 that ‘Downpour’ will be I.O.I’s final track before their official disbandment. On 29th January 2017, the group got disbanded after making their last TV show appearance on MBC’s Section TV.

I.O.I Members are Now Focusing on Individual Activities

Following the disbandment of I.O.I, all the members went back to their respective agencies where they focused on their individual activities. Kang Mi-na and Kim Se-Jeong are now members of Gugudan and it’s subunit. Kim Do-Yeon and Choi Yoo-Jung are current members of Weki Meki. Jung Chae-Yeon is still with DIA while the rest of the members have established a solo career.
